Chris Byrne – A Legendary DJ Journey Since 1977
Chris began his DJ career back in 1977 at a private country club nitespot in Out Rawcliffe, near Blackpool. Spinning through the vibrant disco and punk era, he was part of a cultural shift that defined a generation of nightlife. By the early 1980s, Chris had moved on to weddings and private functions, fine-tuning his craft and building a reputation for knowing exactly how to move a crowd.
In 1987, Chris landed his first professional residency at The Hop in his hometown of Burnley. DJing every Thursday through Sunday night, he held the residency for four unforgettable years. The Hop became legendary—thanks in no small part to Chris—packing out every night with an electric atmosphere. Back then, most venues closed at 11pm, but The Hop had a rare midnight license. If you didn’t arrive by 10:30, you’d likely be stuck in a queue that wrapped halfway around the car park.
Since then, Chris has truly taken Burnley and the North West by storm, spinning at iconic venues such as:

From 1994 to 2003, Chris held a long-standing and highly popular residency at The Red Lion, one of Burnley’s biggest and busiest pubs at the time. In 2003, he moved on to become the resident DJ at the state-of-the-art nightclub X-S, which later became Fusion (now the defunct Mode Nightclub). During this period, Chris shared the stage with world-renowned DJs including Scott Bond, Rob Tissera, John Kelly, Paul Taylor, Judge Jules, Pete Tong, Brandon Block, Jurgen Vries, and Guy Ornadel, to name just a few.
Chris's talent was recognized on air as well, with three of his mixes featured on Rock FM’s Mark Freejack's Floorfillers Friday Show in the 2000s.
Today, Chris still packs dance floors every weekend as the resident DJ at The Swan in Burnley. He also headlines six sell-out, themed Christmas party nights every December at the stunning Burnley Mechanics Theatre.
After nearly five decades behind the decks, Chris’s passion remains as strong as ever.
“All I ever wanted to do,” says Chris, “is make people dance by giving them the music they want.”
