Whilst working on the tracks for this EP I often imagined them going in many musical directions. 'Together' always felt as though it could be a big club track with a few tweaks in the arrangement so I did exactly that. At 8 minutes long it takes a little patience, but hopefully the track will take you on a little journey that'll have you shuffling down the street.

Beginning in the south, the Bruce Trail hugs the ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquoia as it follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Path, over its lengthy journey, winds its way through a landscape of natural beauty as it moves up to central Ontario. 
As the Trail leads further into the depths of the woodland and Ravine, sunlight falls through layers of evergreen branches stamping intricate patterns on the forest floor. Continuing north, the Trail passes an array of plants and wildlife native to the historic forest. Vivid colours saturate the forest canopy, complimented by the sounds of the cascading waterfall echoing through the Ravine. In the distance a carpet of gently waving fern cover the rolling hills dotted with slow-growing centuries-old coniferous trees that reach towards the sun.
At the home stretch of the escarpment you will be offered stunning views of the Peninsula, with the calm blue water of the western end of Lake Ontario reaching out to the lush greens of the temperate rainforest. This is the journey of the Bruce Trail.

Erol Alkan returns to Phantasy with 'Spectrum' and 'Silver Echoes', two pure dance floor cuts which perfectly embody Alkan's charismatic, psychedelia tinged and singular approach to DJing and production.

"Dear friends, it feels so good to be able to write that new music is finally out there. You can stream 'Silver Echoes (Shorter)' from today, ahead of full release on Friday 9th November.  It's a double A side single coupled with 'Spectrum', which I've been playing throughout the summer. The sleeve is also double sided, with the 'Silver' side right above this text, and the flip in full colour.

Both 'Spectrum' and 'Silver Echoes' represent different sides of my current approach to DJing. Ever since I decided to focus on playing longer sets, it immediately became apparent as to the kind of club records I felt I needed to make. I've always loved records which have a distinctive fusion about them, and I feel that 'Spectrum' embodies this... 'Silver Echoes' has that thread of melancholy which seems to manifest itself in much of what I do. Of all the club records I've made, these are two that came together far more naturally. Perhaps it's because I made them for myself, but I hope others will find something in them too.

After spending the last 5 years recording bands, or collaborating with other artists, I decided to write music for my Dj sets, and this is the first offering. Thanks for listening" - Erol Alkan

Every Day the Sun Comes Up

South London’s DJ Counselling, aka Ash Arnold, is known for creating hand-played rhythms with an original approach to groove. Being part of the electronic dance scene for over 20 years, Ash has worn many hats: producer, remixer, DJ, record label owner, band leader and, first and foremost, drummer. First surfacing as DJ Counselling with his debut single “Pollard’s Thrill” in 2018, Ash uses real instruments and live recording techniques with analogue synthesisers to create deep, atmospheric music that is as uplifting as it is emotive.

Whether in his home studio in London or mobile studio in Berlin, Ash explains how he knows he’s onto something special “when it doesn’t feel like the music is coming from me anymore. For a moment, I get so lost in what I’m creating that I hear it as though someone else is making it.” The DJ Counselling project gathered momentum in 2020 with lauded releases “Every Day the Sun Comes Up”, “Cool Air” and “Wide Awake in an Open Space”, which drew fans like Tom Ravenscroft and Jungle.

With DJ Counselling, Ash doesn’t intend to deliver big club hits but rather creates music that reflects his mood or location at the time of writing. Nonetheless, his music is hugely popular on the dancefloor; being played by the likes of Richie Hawtin and Bonobo. Esteemed for his eclecticism and versatility, Ash brings the club to the concert hall, and vice versa, with his ever-evolving live performances. Expect percussion instruments, classical sensibilities, and complex analogue synths being given equal attention on stage.

DJ Counselling’s new album, Alt-Mobeat, underscores Ash’s symphonic craftsmanship and esteem as a musician. It is difficult to place DJ Counselling into a specific genre. From tracks like “Cool Air”, one of Spotify’s Best Electronic Songs of 2021, to his latest works, Ash has never tried to fit himself into a box. Instead, he applies an emotional connection to everything he creates, with a strong groove always being the main focus.
