The next instalment in UNITED’s series of releases sees London-based Real Tears team up with UNITED’s very own Moscow Legend for a menacing new grime EP. 

Real Tears’ ferocious track, ‘Paimon’, combines a fusion of dark elements to create a 145 BPM demonic ambience. The use of signature Real Tears sounds throughout the song remind you that despite the unmistakably grimey nature of the claps in the track, this is still Real Tears at his best. 

Moscow Legend’s ‘Everblasting Bass’ showcases exceptional sound design, consistent with the forward-thinking nature of his grime production. The track has already garnered considerable attention as a dubplate, receiving plays from General Courts, Boylan, Grandmixxer and Skee Mask. 

The unique nature of these two producer’s styles blends incredibly well in this EP, demonstrating UNITED’s enduring ability to produce collaborations that seamlessly represent the work of their Russian producers with that of established UK artists.

As we’ve all seen Tāmaki Makaurau has suffered massive devastation after the floods a few weeks ago with the good people of the north being heavily affected with some losing their homes & entire livelihood’s including lots of dear friends & whanau of The Big Fresh Collective - We turned to local artists & businesses to donate a bit of their time and support to a great cause in order to raise some funds for those in need ❤

Footmahi For Tāmaki Makaurau is a non for profit, Footwork & Juke inspired compilation album where artists from all over Aotearoa & the rest of the world have donated tracks in support of The Victims of the recent floods and the people of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The compilation is centered around raising money for the victims of the floods and also restoring a bit of love and happiness back through the way we know best; with good music!

Created on a $0 budget with tracks donated from acclaimed artists locally and abroad; The compilation will be available under a name-your-own-price deal on Bandcamp which means you get to choose how much you want to donate towards the cause and you receive a high-quality download of the album - 100% of profits will be going directly to The Auckland City Mission  ❤

During the making of this record I was primarily concerned with the anxieties of postmodern existence. Living with constant information connects us but ultimately drives us apart as powerful institutions use information and disinformation to manipulate the public and manufacture consent. As a first generation Chinese immigrant raised in the west, I am interested in the process of sampling from ethnically diverse, "foreign" origins as well as local, familiar sources and seeing how they interplay with each other in startling new ways. Sampling is an old artform, a foundation of electronic music, and we are learning as a new generation how to utilize this tradition under changing ethical standards. Stylistically this record was made with the intention of using a lot of disparate samples from politically-incongruous places: European colonialist films, a white Mormon indie rock band, Japanese kabuki, traditional Chinese hand percussion, Nixon's speeches, vocals from both American and Cantonese pop icons, an experimental record about the Vietnam war, etc., and combine them in ways that are unexpected, non-fetishistic, and nuanced. As post-millennial people, we enjoy greater access to cultural artifacts ("samples") than ever before which can lead to great artistic works if used with respect to context, meaning, and cultural significance. This EP was an attempt to explore that.
