‘40 Ounce’ comes packed with plenty of bounce (40 ounces maybe!), as a generous bassline weaves around a stellar groove and swinging rhythm.  Vocal refrains are injected into the warm and deep production, and an energetic and heady vibe is firmly stamped over this one.  ‘Dazz Away’ maintains the industrious spirit, combining crisp and rolling beats delivered at an infectious tempo, syrupy female vox and another nifty bass workout from this talented duo.

Project89 has been impressing with his productions for PIV, Mea Culpa Records and Audio Rehab, and most recently, collaborated with The Checkup, for the META released ‘40 Ounce’ EP.  The Dutch DJ & producer returns to Ben Rau’s consistent label with a full solo release, on the ‘Bitter Sweet’ EP.

With the right balance of soulful vibes against a driving and tight rhythm, ‘Bitter Sweet’ couples a sweet vocal hook with an industrious bassline that unfurls with acidic tones, as luscious pads envelope this feel good and exceptionally groovy house cut.

‘Gotta Have You’ is cut from the same cloth, featuring another captivating bass riff, and dubby, metallic chords.  Vocal refrains float over this highly charged club track, and another alluring production from Project89 that makes for a fine brace of tracks on this release.

PREMIERE: Laurence Guy - Experience Health [Shall Not Fade]

British house heavyweight and Defected resident Low Steppa returns to the imprint with his latest release, a four-track package showcasing his skills as both producer and remixer. Making his solo debut on the label in 2019 with the acclaimed ‘You’re My Life’, this sought-after selection of heaters illustrates Low Steppa’s evolving, dancefloor-ready style. Kicking off the release with his storming remix of house classic ‘Ultra Flava’ by Heller & Farley, produced alongside Swedish DJ Johan S, the Simma Black boss then turns his hand to two essentials from the Defected catalogue. Bobby Blanco & Miki Moto’s 2004 Balearic classic ‘3am’ comes first, maintaining the driving feel of the original while weaving in deep grooves and percussive touches. Up next, a more recent Defected essential, Crooker’s 2016 collaboration with Kym Mazelle, ‘A Place In My Heart’ gets the Low Steppa treatment. Taking the stripped-back original and keeping Kym’s vocal centre stage, a jacked-up bassline and melodic synths give the remix its signature Low Steppa sound. Finally, closing out the release is original production ‘Love Jam’, a dream-like, laid-back house cut with ethereal builds and spoken-word narration. This collection of tracks, with their timeless feel, showcases some of Low Steppa’s finest productions yet, navigating different moods, sounds and eras of house seamlessly, ‘Moments’ is an exciting sign of things to come from the artist.

'The Isolation Tapes came together accidentally during lockdown. Getting lost in the music-making process was our way to escape the feelings of anxiety and uncertainty which presented themselves with the emergence of Covid. We had no plan beyond escapism, but a cleared schedule gave us lots of time to explore new ideas. After we'd made a few tracks we started to realize the importance of bringing this music together under one project, a musical reference point for this strange period in time, and so the Isolation Tapes was born - a series of singles we made during lockdown whose titles all begin with a different letter from the word: I S O L A T I O N.' -  Audiojack

I am very pleased to welcome back Italian artist Mo'Cream for his second Large Music release. It has been quite a year for this talented producer and I am excited that he is becoming a permanent member of our elite artist roster. Both tracks featured are smooth, lush and moody but still have driving dancefloor energy. I think this is a terrific package from a mature producer with a very bright future.
