"Open The Doors" is more than actual after this Covid related period of closed clubs, cancelled festivals and total lack of social life.

The Love Anthem remixes contains four strong, diverse and well rounded mixes from Lindsey Herbert, Ray Kajioka, Mike Derer and Gabriella Vergilov.

Lindsey Herbert opens the EP with a high energy dance floor cut that executes booming hypnotic grooves, high density synth, percussions and a peak time drive.

Ray Kajioka serves up a remix that sucks you into an intense cymbal driven rhythm that surprises with deep moody chords and well programmed vocals.

Mike Derer brings his unique sound of stripped down grooves that is minimal, yet effective and with catchy synth line that provides rhythm through-out the ride.

Gabriella Vergilov adds another interpretation that differs from her original track that was released on the Gradual Landscapes compilation in December 2020. Her Acid Bang remix is playful, stompy with a sultry acid line and her iconic vocals.

Based in Berlin by way of Frankfurt, BLK DRP boss Michael Klein will drop his next record on Second State, “Nokaut EP”. The 4 tracker follows the release of his powerful “No Mercy EP” on the Berlin label earlier this year, and delivers another welcomed edition of Klein’s tough but atmospheric sound. 

Taking its place as opener is the title track “Nokaut”. Stomping along with intent, the walloping kick and ravey 303 elements coerces you to move. The robust vocal sample spouts repeatedly while the 303 builds and fades, before storming back in with slapping hi-hats. MK’s Random Mod Edit follows. His rendering is a warped and disjointed edit, but still manages to retain the energy and soul of the original. Showing off his production skills, he transforms the once acid-tinged melody and turns it into a jolting, jittery tune that allows the percussion to take centre stage. The galloping kick drum and searing hot cymbals push the tempo as snare drums and hi-hats layer and fall over each other. 

On the flip, “Scream” is a step away from the relentless, high powered rave energy of the A side and a step into the deeper, darker side of techno. Booming kick drums sound out over a powerful baseline and snapping detuned percussions. An echoing woodblock is struck and fades into the distance while the brooding melody takes control. Last up is “Slow Sucker”, which commences as a laboured, chuggy cut, but builds to a steady march throughout. An indistinct voice jolts across the explosive kick drum and snare combination, an element that Klein cleverly uses sparingly during the track. A distorted baseline hangs over an oscillating synth that drapes an impenetrable veil of darkness, creating the atmosphere of this closer.

Kuiper Noise founder Holldën presents “Malpractice” EP on Second State. The Portuguese export delivers a whirlwind of crunching, evocative techno with this record, following his stand-out contribution to the label’s most recent VA compilation with track “Myosotis”. 

Launching the record with breakneck speed is “Slacker”. This chaotic high energy opener employs furious precision with relentless cymbals and snare drums. The hectic mood that’s created delves deep with a pummeling kick drum and a dense, malevolent baseline. Synth keys sway and push from one minor key to another, building a deep and dark energy. Next up is “Physical Provider”, a track that continues with the same level of energy and gusto as its predecessor. A heavily distorted vocal sample that is pushed beyond any discernible recognition plays a vital rhythmic role, intertwined with the kick drum and hi-hat combination. Slowly, a devilish baseline is drawn in, adding even more weight. Melodic keys jolt between the percussion and fall gracefully into the arms of the long, yearning major notes towards the close. 

Following is the atmospheric cut “Dandelion Mine”. Endlessly deep sonics greet us from the jump, swirling nimbly around the thumping kick drum and off-kilter synth notes, that make this an ultimate techno roller. Razor sharp cymbals ring out and send you into a frenzy amongst the snares drum and a jet black baseline. A brief moment of serenity is found when the percussion is stripped away, but is soon lost as the full weight of the track is brought down upon you again. Closing out proceedings is “Garrote”, with off-center, minor keys, it is as perfectly unusual as it is effective. The percussion leaves nothing to the imagination as the full force of Holldën’s production is brought out on show. Explosive kick drums, hi-hats, and snare drums drive you on, while pairing effortlessly with the trippy melody. A deep baseline brings with it an unnerving anxious feeling that calls you to the dance.

We blinked and it’s been four years since Ilario Alicante’s last EP on Drumcode. Back in 2017, he contributed the excellent four-tracker ‘Figures & Echoes’, but has
never been far from Adam Beyer’s mind, having regularly played alongside one another at Cocoon Ibiza. The Italian’s stripped back sound gets under your skin, both purposeful and hypnotic. With ‘Rave Soul’, he’s added extra colour to the palette, imbuing the work with bags of sentimentality and jubilation as we collectively return to the dancefloor.

The EP opens with ‘Rave Atlas’, which is propelled by plenty of old school effects and a dynamic vibe. ‘Again’ asks “who were you with last night” and packs a trippy after-hours energy. ‘Rave Soul’, continues with the throwback style of ‘Rave Atlas’ and hammers like a 90s warehouse party, driven by insistent piano stabs.

Premiere: GHEIST - Home Again [RADAU]

Inspired by Chicago, built for the dance floor, now remixed by two names very close to Edwin Oosterwal's heart: 'Elasticity' gets two heavyweight reboots it deserves.

Originally released in October 2017, the Rejected boss's slamming track hit hard with elements of many timeless rudiments from Trax to 'Erotic Discourse'. Still sounding incredible today, it now enjoys these updates from Dutch techno pioneer Alden Tyrell and renown groove maestro Dennis Quin.

Alden steps up first. One of Edwin's all-time favourite producers, here the Clone legend beefs up the drums and energy while retaining all of the original elasticated mischief of the original. The result is a raw but warm slap to the senses.

Quin follows. A long-time friend and occasional collaborator with Oosterwal, Dennis adds a little laid-back strut to the groove, softening it around the edges but still focusing on that processed hook that ripples up and down the groove, creating all kinds of freaky moves in the process.

Inspired by Chicago, made in the Netherlands and still very much built for the dance floor. This is what remixes are all about. Time to get stretchy once again!

OMEN Recordings introduces another new artist for our twelfth release. We welcome JGarrett, from Vancouver, Canada, who contributes three original tracks to this Techno EP. We are also pleased to feature such a talented list of international remixing artists to this release. Needing no introduction is Los Angeles’ own, Drumcell, Italian producer Irregular Synth, and Sebastian Bayne from Australia.

Transgressor - The opening alone lures you onto the dancefloor as the chugging analog EBM-like bassline pushes you along. The haunting melodic tones behind the 4X4 beat give this track its goth spice. Left Untold - A heavy kick dominates its way through this dance-floor favorite. A must play for your big room show. Hands up and eyes closed for this one. Objectified - Layer upon layer of filter sweep textures lay a cover over break-beat kicks, syncopated snares that snap into place, while keeping a dark-like feel to this experimental banger.

Transgressor (Drumcell Remix) - Keeping the heat going while adding new steam-punk flavor makes this remix a cohesive contribution. Break-beat kicks blended with industrial elements coupled with no mercy gives it a unique dark feel. Left Untold (Irregular Synth Remix) - Keeping the original ideas but adding depth, bounce, fullness and hot sauce to make this the perfect recipe for peak time sets. The acid patterns keep you connected all the way with the never stopping 4X4 groove. Transgressor (Sebastian Bayne's Underwater Remix) - Taking the submarine into the depths of the techno ocean, dark and seductive melodies mixed with deep kicks take us on a journey to the unknown.

Detroit pioneer Robert Hood joins Radio Slave’s Rekids label with a fourteen track album entitled ‘Mirror Man’ this November.

A founding member of Underground Resistance alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Robert Hood is one of techno’s originators and his decorated career spans three decades. The American artist and his M-Plant label laid down the blueprint for minimal techno and 1994’s ‘Minimal Nation’ on Axis was a definitive album that further cemented Hood’s reputation as one of the greats to emerge from the Motor City.

Since then, Hood has gone on to release on many of electronic music’s best labels like Tresor, Peacefrog, Music Man Records, Dekmantel and more. After a busy few years making music and touring as Floorplan alongside his daughter Lyric, Hood now joins Rekids with an album showcasing his innate knack for crafting paired back but intricate rhythms that deliver punch and soul.

Opening with the cinematic ‘Through A Looking Glass Darkly’, the album quickly flows into precise, powerful four four. There’s mesmerising cuts such as ‘Fear Not’ with its throbbing bass and spectral vocals, the twisted and off-key ‘Run Bobby, Run’, not to mention muscular tracks designed to light up dancefloors like the machine driven ‘Ignite A War’ or the robust and rumbling ‘The Cure’.
Hood also breaks things up with downtempo and mind bending interludes, including the tranquil yet spooky ‘Black Mirror’ and the beatless and murky ‘Freeze’. Each of these are aural feasts that demonstrate his vast musical pallet.

From start to finish ‘Mirror Man’ is an education in finesse from one of techno’s most heroic artists, landing on one of electronic music’s most important labels.
