After the warm and beautiful indie leaning EP from Dead Heat, Life and Death steps back up to the plate with two fresh dancefloor killers found in Mind Against's new Avalon EP. 

With sounds that seem plucked from an early 80s children's filmstrip gone very wrong (or perhaps very very right) Mind Against weave a dark, inspired charge into the black of night with both sides of this stunning EP.

On the A side is Several Times, a techno gem that comes out of the gate at breakneck pace with solid drums, bass and a rhythmic synth pulse that evolves slowly and strongly until finally augmented by a main analog synth line that reaches over from the other side and grabs you directly by the ears. It's an evocative melody that keeps the listener on edge with tones that are fully present yet almost barely hold together, teetering just on the edge of falling apart but never quite falling away from just where they need to be. A techno themed soundtrack to a disturbing Groundhog Day of the faraway future.

Over on the B side is the EP's namesake with a simmering sound that makes reference to the ancient island home of legendary sorceress Morgan Le Fey, sister of the famous King Arthur and whose mystic ways were to blame for mirages seen by sailors long out at sea. Here again an analog synth casts its spell on the listener, framed by delayed chords and a foreboding low end growl that slowly tell the tale of Avalon. Managing the difficult task of painting a picture without form, Mind Against weave an emotional drama without words and yet their vocabulary of sound seems keenly up to the task. No easy feat but one this duo have proven again and again that they are more than able to accomplish.

Making their first appearance on the label, Venezuelan deep house masters Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine aka Fur Coat are the next to release on the mighty Hot Creations. Title track ‘There’s No Time’ sees the darker side of the talented duo for an epic experience on the dance floor with deep growling basslines complemented with powerful electronic keys and dramatic builds. On the B-side Hot Creations favourite wAFF delivers a stellar and storming ‘Warehouse Remix’ picking up the pace with added vocals and percussion, packed with all the sonic energy we have come to expect from the young producer. Last up the Fur Coat duo deliver another golden original. ‘Together’ takes it deeper once again with a rumbling bassline and hypnotic synths and keys flowing through the layers to stimulate the senses.

Fur Coat previously remixed Russ Yallop’s ‘The Crossroads’ followed by their debut EP ‘Space Ballad’, featuring an unforgettable edit by TEED. However it would be their release ‘You and I’ featuring vocals from Cari Golden that would put the name Fur Coat on the map. At the end of 2012 they released their huge debut album ‘Mind Over Matter’ on Crosstown Rebels, with further ventures on labels such as Bpitch, Rebellion, Southern Fried Records, Noir, Get Physical and My Favorite Robot.

wAFF has rapidly gone strength to strength in the past few years after being taken under the wing of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Richy Ahmed. First coming to everyone’s attention with the huge ‘Jo Johnson’ EP, wAFF has gone on to acquire a heavy touring schedule and his more recent ‘Puke It Up’ EP released on the label only cemented his career in the industry further. Alongside his home label wAFF has also been releasing and remixing for labels such as Cocoon Recordings, Resonance Recordings and Rinse.

Renowned live artist and Premiesku member Floog delivers four shimmering microhouse cuts on Archie Hamilton’s Moscow Records this September.

Hailing from the vibrantly active house and techno scene of Romania, Floog has established himself as one of the country’s most distinguished artists with releases on labels like Mulen Records, Atipic, Joule and MEOKO. One third of the Premiesku group alongside Livio & Roby, he has specialised in capturing the infectious rhythm of drum machines and analogue synths with regular support from Apollonia, Petre Inspirescu, Raresh, Priku, Sonja Moonear, and many more.

‘The Gathering’ kick starts the release with layered claps, a low-end analogue hook and tantalising high stabs, before ‘Balance Right’ continues his signature minimal aesthetic with sparkling bleeps, sweeping vocals and a catchy synth loop. On the flip ‘Amiba Ta’ gives an eerie feel whilst tight drums lock in the groove, until finally ‘Sepe Patru’ closes the package with decayed voices, bouncing side-chained bass and saturated snare layers.

German groove master Christian Burkhardt returns to Hottrax with another essential release entitled ‘Wrecking EP’ featuring three stripped back cuts. Burkhardt is in a real purple patch of form right now, with big collaborative releases on Do Not Sleep, Leftroom and Celesta. Always cooking up fresh new minimal house sounds that are expertly produced, he blends dance floor clout with plenty of cinematic sound design and does that again here. Finishing off a superb EP is ‘Swiffer’, this tie with unresolved loops of knotted, rasping bass, melting vocals and loose percussion that are perfect for cosy backroom sessions.
