Jexy is around the corner. Jexy or rather It's Me, Jexy - the third album and successor of Jex Opolis' 'midlife crisis' album Net Worth that came out on his Good Timin' label in 2020. And it surely is a good timing for a new LP from the core artist, who choses various musical approaches for It's Me, Jexy without becoming arbitrary but making the ten-tracker sound like a smooth ride through his preferences. However, when producing the album Jex Opolis had just undergone several changes: he left New York City to move back to Edmonton and basically had to break with digging routines and being surrounded by music 24/7. But in every ending is a new beginning and Jex wouldn't be the artist he is if he didn't find a way to cope with the new situation and produce an album that hits close to being home – at least musically. Shorty before the release of the ten gems Jex, whose life seemingly circles around music to 99%, speaks about Tik Tok, Wayne Gretzky, bad timin', contracts with Sven, shitty movies and crucial topics like the won back freedom of producing music, the wish to be artistically heard and seen, the blessing and the curse of social media and phones on the dancefloor, what he wishes the scene to do once clubs open properly again, and of course how the album came about. Also Jex delivers the latest art:cast giving us a sneak peak of the album and its Gem(s).

Having spent the last decade evolving into one of dance music’s most sublimely effective producers, CWPT is delighted to welcome Theo Kottis at the peak of his powers, delivering a further four tracks that demonstrate a playful mastery of widescreen sounds for wide-eyed dancefloors.

Capturing the light still shining from his beloved ‘Lighthouse’, finally released earlier in 2024 via Dekmantel and escalated into notoriety thanks to support from trusted selectors such as Ben UFO, Francesco Del Garda and our own Palms Trax, title track ‘Rain’ retains a similar, blindingly authentic nineties reverence, finding ecstasy in a wash of cascading synths, powerful plunges of sub-bass and layer upon layer of elasticated everything.

The Scottish producer’s positive education in the foundations of club music with real personality makes itself known without indulgence; a belief in the subtle tweaks and imagination of classic tech-house, alongside a welcome flirtation with the over-the-top elements that create something potentially anthemic. In this regard, ‘Benirras’ proves to be pure pleasure for dancers who love to be toyed with, its stripped back opening giving way to slowly-escalating, wobbly-jawed hysteria.

On the flip, ‘Grazie’ proves as cordial as its title, a warm and refined slice of sleek house minimalism, a roller with Alfa Romeo sensibilities. Things take a more aquatic turn on ‘Lowkey’, a logically headsy conclusion that sees Kottis sensually bounce the word ‘electro’ around in that very style, its slower tempo and wider space allowing the impressive intricacies of his productions to float up for fresh air.

The Irrégularités series is back with volume 2 on July 26 on all streaming platforms and on Bandcamp. Different artists, different vibes but always the same will to make vibrate on broken sounds.

Bruk is massive and even travels as far as New Zealand. The proof is with producer Hiki who, like his fellow countryman Mark de Clive-Lowe, brings this music alive on his island. His approach to music is exploratory, blending his different influences from disco to UK garage via boogie, jazz and house music. A combination that he applied to compose his track HOTTER, which is based on a Broken Beat rhythm while retaining a Deep ambience. The result is a magnetic journey punctuated by tight percussion and a driving groove.
