Amig@s vamos con otra entrega de nuestra mimada serie de podcast. Este nos ha costado un poco conseguirlo, hemos recorrido gran parte de nuestro sistema solar, hemos surcado nubes de polvo estelar y esquivado alguna que otra onda expansiva provocada por una supernova. Pero al fin, dimos con nuestro invitado, The Zenobit3, y su arte interplanetaria.

The Zenobit3 aka Sumerian Slave es todo un referente en esto del submundo electrónico y es que cuesta menos contar los años que no ha estado presente que los que lleva en esto. 

The Zenobit3 es la evolución de Dj Pitch, y sus comienzos se remontan a comienzos de los 90 donde estilos como el EBM más industrial, IDM, Techno, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Electro, Ambient y marcianadas varias empezaban a alimentar su mente y su preciada colección de discos.

En esos años The Zenobit3 (Pitch) fue residente de diversas salas como Voltereta (ALK-MAD), Camelot (VLL) o Universe (MAD). Además, era miembro del colectivo Dark Archives enfocado sobre todo al Drum & Bass (and scratch applications). Colectivo que le llevó a actuar en diversas salas y festivales de toda la península: Zeus (COR), Metro (ALC), Yasta (MAD), Copelia (MAD), Moog (BCN), Sonar, Festimad o Phonetica.

En 2004 es cuando definitivamente gira al Electro y adopta el nombre The Zenobit3 y además comienza a darle a la producción. En este aspecto The Zenobit3 ha publicado trabajos en sellos como Drivecom, SETI Recordings, Elektrodos, Redsonja Records, Crobot Muzik, Eclectic Reactions o Electro Club Records. Sus producciones son precisas, con sonidos cristalinos, bajos sobrecogedores y melodías que van directas al alma.

Como Dj The Zenobit3 es de lo más crema que puedas escuchar y un defensor a ultranza de nuestro formato amigo, el vinilo. Sus sesiones son puro Electro donde tienen cabida sonidos procedentes de Detroit, UK o el norte de Europa todo ellos mezclado como pocos hacen y sin perder de vista la narrativa, la coherencia y la conexión con la gente. Sin duda, The Zenobit3 es todo un referente para los que amamos el arte del mixing de la forma más tradicional. 

Tanto sus Live’s acts como sus Dj Sets han llevado a The Zenobit3 a recorrer lugares y eventos de culto como 8Z8, Rephlex, Sugar Blood, We Are The Robots, Fémur, Analogical Force o Electro/Techno Cracks…

Sin más, os dejamos en muy buenas manos y os queremos confesar que estamos muy orgullosos de publicar este set y que para nosotros tiene mucho significado contar con The Zenobit3.

This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

The aim for this mix was relatively straightforward: to present what I am doing with my ‘drone and bass’ DJ sets. In keeping with the forward thinking attitude of ‘Electronic Explorations’, I focused on presenting new music. Except for an old Conrad Schnitzler production I couldn’t resist including, basically everything else has been released in the last year. I also made an effort to include tracks from artists I think are exploring interesting territory. So if you like the mix, I strongly encourage you to look further into their discographies. The vast majority of the music here is easy to find in digital and other formats. Thanks to Rob for the kind invitation to contribute to this excellent series, to Wata Igarashi for mastering the mix, and to Sae Murakami for the picture.

The mix was recorded in one take on a Sunday afternoon in September 2015. It is entitled ‘music for nominal spaces’.

Famous occultist Aleister Crowley once said: “The Way of Mastery is to break all the rules—but you have to know them perfectly before you can do this; otherwise you are not in a position to transcend them.” Copenhagen based producer and DJ Ena Cosovic has worked her way up to that very position. There’s an unmistakable Detroit flavour to everything she dishes out; a sense of deep understanding of composition and lineage. Ena knows the techno tradition by heart. That’s why she’s able to transform it.  

Ena’s respect for musical root systems has a root of its own. She came to Copenhagen as a Bosnian refugee in the 90’s, bringing distinct memories of the thriving and pulsating rhythms of traditional Balkan folk music. She was predictably absorbed by the Copenhagen club scene and started MC’ing over house and techno tracks which led to a singing career. Carefully she also learned the tricks of the trade behind the decks and is now one of Copenhagen’s leading selectors, being a Culture Box resident for over six years. 

Another tradition honoured by Ena is that of the occult – the art of bending reality to one's will. She has mastered the ability of enslave the minds and bodies of thousands of dancers in clubs all over Europe with her ”emotional body music” – an unpolished mix of rugged dub techno, raw acid and rusty breaks.

2019 has so far brought Ena to Ibiza’s renowned club Circoloco where she played on the opening night of the season. And once again saw her grace Roskilde Festival’s line up.
This year will also bring two collaborative EP’s with Josefine Hellström and a solo EP.
