The forests hold our water, the wild, the unseen. Spending time in the quiet of a fall day on the mountain brings us closer to what sustains. This immersive mix was made alongside the Big Tesuque Creek above Santa Fe, NM in the Sangre de Cristo mountains on a rainy and snowy October Sunday with a small group of friends around a fire.

This set was performed in the freshly dark and starry high-desert foothills of the Rocky Mountains amidst a bounty of fabulous performers and a flock of glimmering dance steps. Thank you Team Everything for another fantastic year!

This photo was taken at Mesa Por Vida 2018 by the great Beau Sniderman. With a little help from Photoshop, he turned the decks into a pulpit, turned the trees into a cathedral and turned the ravers into a congregation. A-Fucking-Men!

Los Brujos del Funk @Lush Atitlán 2023

Made at 9,700 ft on a blanket on a brilliant October Sunday afternoon in a grove of aspens ablaze with the yellow magic of fall, this is a long-player foray into ambient techno meant for moments of reflection and connection. It is inspired by the forest on the mountain as well as the afterglow of the recent super-moon eclipse that I watched with friends around the fire, set to music spacious enough for the occasion. Taking its name partially from the latin genus of the quaking aspen, this 'studio-outside' mix was projected softly into the forest as it was recorded.

Featuring tracks &/or remixes by ekena, purl, goran geto, sternwarte/schwarzfunk., aeron, warmth, yone b, martin nonstatic, am.light, alveol, halftribe, doyeq, narcotic 303, and fingers in the noise, among others.

Third in a series of place-based, immersive mixes, 'Ghost Ranch and The Valley of Shining Stone' was arranged at the base of the red rock cliffs of Ghost Ranch on a sunny and surprisingly warm winter afternoon, and then recorded after dark from a mesa-top casita nicknamed Coyote. Coyote has a panoramic, raven's-eyed view of the 21,000 acre ranch by day, and opens to a wide bowl of stars in the exceptionally dark sky of the new moon by night. 

El Valle de la Piedra Lumbre - the Valley of Shining Stone- is known by locals and travelers as a mystical, mysterious place, the chosen abode of painter Georgia O'Keeffe, and a web of small communities with long Hispanic and Indigenous histories. 

Ghost Ranch, an accessible piece of the Piedra Lumbre, is home to much more than just colorful cliffs; perennial water in the form of creeks, seeps and springs, extensive dinosaur & paleontology dig sites, and marks of human habitation reaching back at least 8,000 years all deepen the attraction. Hiking into the Box Canyon or up the mesa trails invites both peaceful, quiet reflection while also inciting a pounding current of outrageous wonder at the sheer impact of the landscape. This mix walks these edges.

Ghost Ranch and The Valley of Shining Stone

Fourth in a series of outdoor Immersive Mixes, this ambient soundscape was composed within a massive snow spiral 'eddy' set high up in a meadow in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Nearby in the aspens sits an igloo with magical windows and thick snowbrick walls. This mix is an homage to the high country mountains and the damp quiet of snow and ice...and to the intercontinental connectivity of critical climate and water cycles of Earth, so much of which involves the brilliant polar realms. Reflections on water come in many forms, and here can be experienced frozen in the block of an igloo, or carefully carved into an interactive and compelling destination for the snowshoeing adventurer and/or contemplator.  

The spiral and igloo, perched at over 10,000 ft in the Big Tesuque drainage overlooking the Rio Grande valley, have been created by Santa Fe environmental artist Channing Huser as part of her ongoing multi-year land art project to document -- in strikingly visceral fashion -- metrics such as snow pack, water supply and climate change in the vicinity of Santa Fe's precious, mountainous watershed. Based upon her astute observations and experiences of the meadow, the spiral grows with snowfall (she digs it out and builds it up regularly after storms) and shrinks with bouts of warm, melting weather. Photographed each year in March, the spiral serves as an earthly barometer...measuring in sculpted turns the fall of snow - and ultimately water - along with the variability and dynamic nature of climate and mountain life above the high desert. 

But it is also a simple, beautiful spot for a vigorous snowshoe and outing with friends, evocative of  the movement of water and energy, with a 100+ mile view to put it all in perspective.  Magical indeed.

The Snow Spiral And The Igloo (Aspen Vista Meadow Mix)

"Brothers from another" - that must be the title of the episode in which I met Kadeejah Streets. Being pied-pipered across the Canadian border by Kevin Kauer for a gig in Vancouver via SEA, Khadeejah was the captain of his rave-van. Charismatic and full of joy, he made the hours on the highway slip like jelly with his carefully curated road trip selections and tales. A Californian at the core, he waxed on his love of Wicked, the San Francisco sound, and his thirst for psychedelic sounds no matter the tempo. Playing in room 2 while we played in Room 1 - we never got to hear him work the decks that night. In a way it was a blessing, we had a lovely judgement free ride back to Seattle the next day - no DJ shade, just more roadside stops, laughs, and incredible selections on the van cans. A couple of music swaps and soundcloud plays later I knew I had to see this man work a room. If our sitcom had an episode where we went to Khadeejah's jiggy club it would be called "No Joke" - this man can mix. A master for the sequence, watching a room of lemmings melt into Khadeejahs groove was quite the sight. Pushing and pulling between the want and the need, he is the kind of selector only happy if you are and determined to get you there without having to put the name-tag on... Full of vocals, dark melodies, and moments that are "faaar out maaan" we hope this is one of many mixes from him for our little potcast series. Drop innnnn

HNYPOT 231: Kadeejah Streets' Part of the Winter Never Dies

Once a year Mesa Recordings and Team Everything gather all the magic we can muster and put on a twenty hour, outdoor, family friendly,  dance event on the high desert plateau of Glorieta Mesa. This year's shenanigan featured an incredible two and a half hour set from the one and only Acid Pauli directly followed by this uncategorizable performance from Feathericci. There were many twists and turns. Feelings were felt. By the end of his set just about everyone on the dance floor was crying including Feath himself. Does the emotion of the experience translate to this recording? Decide for yourself!

Radio Mesa

Radio Mesa - 09 - Feathericci at Mesa Por Vida 2017

An immersive mix created in the expansive high desert perched on a cliff above the confluence of the Rio Puerco and the Rio Chama where they join in Abiquiu Lake. The Rio Puerco is a slow,  languid flow while the Rio Chama churns with runnable rapids. Turning the other direction is the distinctive Cerro Pedernal, the narrow mesa of chert formed from the Jemez volcanic fields, perched in the transition zone between the Colorado Plateau and the Rio Grande rift valley. Pedernal is also the final resting place for the ashes of Georgia O’Keeffe and the source of tool making supplies for the ancestral puebloan and Gallina peoples. 

These two rivers provide sustenance in an otherwise dry place, having carved broad canyons through the redrock sandstone of the Piedra Lumbre. The mere sight of light glancing off water in this landscape is stunning. The land is raw and rugged, with small details as fascinating as the vistas. Pockets in the rock crevasses and sandy runnels reveal juniper berry, pinion cone, and chert and obsidian tool-making artifacts that glint in the sun if one takes the time to see. 

As the the rivers travel their winding courses and muddy floodplain bosques, this music journeys between the realms of ambient and deep techno with moments of patient stillness and moments of swiftness, warming up at the end into a dubby tribute to sunset as the colors of the desert fully emerged.

Third Black and White Session with one of the true culture activists of Zurich, also partner of Kasheme, GRAU. He has been walking along different music streams, genres, movements. From being part of the punk rock scene in 80’s, singing for the Zurich band called “Fleich” to funk, disco, hip – hop, reggae, till today’s new age music. Following his passion for music he decided to stay true to himself.

Erin E brings an ear for unique sounds to her energetic and genre-bending dj sets.  Integrating global gems with sometimes heavy, sometimes heavenly percussive and melodic force, she strips back dance music to something we all can relate to.  Constantly searching for the essence of the sound - be it deep & dub techno, electronic folklore, house or beyond- she cultivates a bassy dancefloor (and headphone) experience that transcends stereotype. 

She is a member of Team Everything, Santa Fe's dusty and loving techno creative team. She is currently working on an ongoing series of place-based 'immersive' mixes, created and performed in wild spaces alone or with a very small crew of intimate listeners.  

Based in Santa Fe, NM, Erin E loves, above all, creating the space for a transformative, positive experience through music and creative community.
