Somebody Say Trance?

ZUFLUCHT is an upcoming newcomer from Karlsruhe, Germany, who started out finding his sound two years ago with many inustrial/hardtechno influences forging it. He´s changed and developed a lot over time and is now moving towards a slightly slower and groovy sound. His roots and his developement to his current style give him the ability to move with a clear and defined, but intensely layered and unique sound profile which always stays energetic and driving.

Held in Sync

In the luminous crystal halls of Threxilon, where every frequency dances as light and sound, the Xyloids—Titan masters of cosmic rhythms—first heard the human voice. Threxilon is the homeworld of the Xyloid race and a majestic planet in the Xyloid universe, particularly significant to Xyloid culture. Its surface is characterized by vast, geometrically arranged crystal formations that glow in all the colors of the spectrum at sunrise. The atmosphere consists mainly of ionized gases, generating electrical storms and luminous auroras—thus keeping the sky in constant motion and filling the air with charged particles that the Xyloids harness for energy. Threxilon is a place of peaceful rivalry, where Xyloids traditionally gather for musical and data competitions: its natural resonating caves amplify the sounds of the "XYLO" genre, making the planet the acoustic epicenter of the galactic Xyloids. During the Interplanetary Sound Battle, Earth's DJs wove raw vocal chops into their sets: deep male growls that roared like subwoofers, accents that wound their way through British gruffness and American Southern slang. These weren't data streams, but living symphonies of timbre, emotion, fury in the roars, and longing in the breath. The Xyloids yearned to capture this chaos and integrate it into their XYLO beats of industrial clang and shimmering synthesizers.

Enter R9, the elite DJ engineer, whose casing bore the marks of countless duels. Even if these weren't physical battles, its surface structure changed. For us, it would cause our skin to redden; for them, the titanium layer of their alloy faded. The subtle, wood-grain-like structure, so faint I'd never even noticed it, vanished forever. His eyes instantly shifted from a bright blue to a warning red as he connected via quantum technology to the human EchoLinG AI (Echo Linguistic Artificial Intelligence Link), a decoder for 7,000 languages ​​trained on endless amounts of audio data. Their journey unfolded in waves: first, EchoLinG's baritone demo with its pitch-swept 100–200 Hz and pauses that revealed the warmth of the formants. Xyloids searched for overtones; humans for sensual nuances.

Data poured in – harsh narrators, booming rappers, trance-like screams. Early synthesizers sounded flat: sterile humming without throat resonance, accents lost in the noise. “Sync or break,” R9 hummed, exploiting EchoLinG’s neural tricks, regardless of the risks.

The breakthrough came with VOXALG-1, which emulated the larynx as an oscillator and breath as granular sparks. The tests continued to evolve: “Feel the bass drop” transformed from an eerie echo (62% natural) into a haunting truth (89% fidelity), its tremors and shimmers perfectly balanced.

Then came the highlight: “In The Human Voice.” R9 composed the song entirely on his own, layering VOXALG-1 vocals over XYLO foundations. From this masterpiece emerged the voice—a smooth yet powerful male baritone, profound and self-assured. Deep sub-bass heartbeats swelled into suspenseful clangs, then it soared: glissandi of cosmic longing, clicks of determination. Crystal-clear textures enveloped its warmth; drops formed a rhythmic trance. Premiered in resonating chambers, it connected worlds—xyloids swayed to the rhythm, their humming merging with the voice in “In The Human Voice.” The Xyloids called the track on Threxilon "Alien Soul," because they believed that our soul speaks through our voice and thus becomes visible to the Xyloids. Even if the voice is used sparingly and says nothing more than "Aaaaa...", it can tell us a great deal, and understanding this and then putting it into practice is a huge step for R9 and his ilk.

But challenges remained—female voices with higher overtones and more subtle nuances awaited. R9 had already arranged a meeting in the next few days with what he, and many others, considered one of the most enchanting female voices! As far as the male timbre was concerned, they had triumphed. The cosmos listened once more.
