Dj Slynke called and asked me to do a 5 to 10 minute piece for a Turntablist mixtape he was putting out w/ sets from guest Dj's from Queens, NY. Dj Spinbad, Dj JS-One, Dj Ody Roc and I were all featured on the Mixtape. The only Problem was that when Slynke called, he needed it done in less then 2 days. Also when he told me who was on it I had to be a lil more creative to make up for my lack of cutting skills. So with a not much sleep, lots of Iced Tea and Ritz (those who knew me then knew that was my studio fuel, lol).this is what I came up with. "Turntables Talk 1999".

This is the unreleased, unmixed, sample version of "Slept On Tony". Which Ghostface's band replayed so it could be in the 2008 movie Ironman. The songs plays about 20 minutes into the movie when they are on the plane and the girls are dancing on the poles.... I originally did this on Labor day in 2007 on an MPC 2500 and did the scratches in Pro Tools. Recorded and additional production by Anthony Acid. The replayed version not only appeared in the movie but was also released on Ghostfaces' greatest hits album.

Ghostface Killah - Slept On Tony (Unreleased sample vers. unmixed) Remake was featured in "IronMan"

September 2009, I stumbled on to this sample while digging through records on the weekend that Mr magic died and when I heard her say "We've lost so many good men", I automatically thought of Roc Raida, Dj AM &amp; Mr Magic. I immediately started chopping the sample in my mpc 2500 and sequenced it in Logic. I made the beat and then spent about 2 weeks finding the right phrases and adding the scratches to make this just right. It really was just my way of dealing with the frustration of losing these Pioneers. The beat was recorded In Logic and the scratches in Ableton Live. Rest In Peace to the all the late greats, Roc Raida, Dj AM, Mr Magic and Jam Master Jay.

On Friday February 7 2014 as Dj Premier was in Detroit performing at Dilla Day, I was filling in for Premier on his Sirius/Xm radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". Being that it was what would have been J-Dilla's 40th birthday I did an all Dilla set in my second hour honoring the late great Producer/MC/DJ. 
James "Jay-Dee", "J-Dilla" Yancey died in 2006 at the young age of 32 from cardiac arrest after a long battle with a rare blood disease.... 

He was one of the music industry's most influential and respected hip-hop artists.

This month marks the passing of the lauded rapper Notorious B.I.G. and to honor his legacy, New York resident DJ Finesse debuted a special tribute during DJ Premier's Sirius/XM show "Live From Headqcourterz" on March 8.

The mix showcases Biggie's a capellas paired with Premier-produced beats. While the original tribute was shorter for air-time, Finesse extends the tribute for hip-hop fans here with a special intro by Premier himself.

DJ Premier's "Live From Headqcourterz" airs every Friday night from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sirius/XM Channel 44, Hip Hop Nation. DJ Finesse is a regular guest on the show, filling in for Premier as an on-air mixer.

On Friday 4/13/19 it was the 3rd anniversary of Keith "Guru" Elam's passing. So While Dj Premier was away doing a show I filled in for him on his radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". As much as it is an honor to be regularly asked by Premier to fill in for him, this night was really special because not only would I fill in but I was also allowed to do a tribute set to his late partner in Gang Starr, Guru. As Guru was one of my favorite MC's of all time and Gang Starr is my favorite rap group of all time, this mix was truly from the heart. On top of that to do this mix live in front of Guru's long time engineer Eddie Sancho & his long time friend Panchi of the NYG'z, made it even more special.

Witness DJ Finesse’s artistry on the turntables, hear his work in a blockbuster film or experience his meld of musical selections alongside celebrity clientele. The Brooklyn-born, Queens-raised record spinner exhibits his talents on a wealth of platforms, all with the same skill and flair that his moniker exemplifies. With more than 15 years solidifying his brand in the entertainment industry, Finesse’s reputation speaks for itself.

As a Puerto Rican kid raised in a tight-knit family, music was the soundtrack to his life. His mother had a passion for Spanish boleros, his sister grooved to ‘80s pop records and his father, whose musical palette was widespread, served as a drummer with a local Latin band. Before Finesse put his hand on two turntables, he laid eyes on his dad’s equipment, which kickstarted his appreciation for the many aspects of producing quality sounds. His father’s inspiration and the gift of a DJ setup fostered his creative energy.

Fifteen years old marked a significant milestone for Finesse. Armed with his first Technic 1200 – just a single turntable at the time – he began traveling the road to DJ credibility. An avid sports fan, he parted with a hefty baseball card collection to score a second turntable. Practice makes perfect and with the right equipment, Finesse was on his way to following in the footsteps of lauded mixers that influenced his abilities -- DJ Premier, Kid Capri, Red Alert, Funkmaster Flex, Stretch Armstrong and John Robinson, among them. 

Since scoring his first New York City gig at Club Expo years ago, DJ Finesse has come a long way. Many of Manhattan’s hotspots have since shut their doors, but during their prime, he captivated crowds with his soundscape. From hip-hop to house, Finesse played tunes during residencies at The Tunnel, Crobar, Spa, Pangaea, Gustovino’s, One and Mansion. Clubgoers at venues like Juliet, Tenjune, Home and M2 have also been privy to his talents. He currently showcases his turntable techniques at New York City nightclubs Amnesia, Gunbar and Crimson, where he holds residencies, in addition to spinning monthly at Providence in the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City.

On a larger scale, he’s rocked the house at Madison Square Garden, The Silverdome, Miami Arena, The Superdome, The Alamodome, Texas Stadium, The Target Center and The Continental Airlines Arena. In 2002, he landed Cancun gigs (The City, Bulldog and Fat Tuesdays) for both spring and summer breaks – which continue yearly -- and since 2003, holidays like Memorial and Labor Day weekends have brought him to Las Vegas, where he’s mixed records at LAX, Foundation Room and more.

Party rockers have undoubtedly experienced his quality mixing, but so have Hollywood’s elite and the entertainment industry’s frontrunners. Finesse has earned headlining DJ credits at shows for Rihanna, LMFAO, 50 Cent and T.I., among others. With a history of spinning events like ‘N Sync’s MTV Awards after-party and MTV’s “Millennium Bash,” there’s more than one solid reason why he’s chosen over his competitors: precision, originality and versatility. 

His resume includes performing at the Bud Bowl party with Snoop Dogg for Super Bowl XLII, was featured in the hip-hop documentary “The Freshest Kidz” and on the MTV LP compilation Masters of the 1 & 2: History's Greatest DJs and since 2010 serves as DJ Premier’s resident substitute on Premier's Sirius XM radio show "Live From Headqcourterz,".

Some of his most respected work to date comes from a collaboration with rapper Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan fame. Blending artists’ records is second nature for DJ Finesse, but so is crafting original records, which he’s done for the rhymer. In April 2008, Finesse produced Ghostface’s “Slept on Tony," a song featured in Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster movie Ironman. The track was also featured on Ghostface's Greatest Hits album. Two years prior, in 2006, another successful project with Ghostface earned him placement on the rapper’s More Fish LP: he performed the scratches featured on “You Know I’m No Good,” which featured celebrated singer Amy Winehouse.

A true definition of a creative New Yorker, DJ Finesse’s passion lies in delivering quality music to eager listeners. His collective talents, from turntablism to production, will come to fruition on his debut solo album, which he’s currently crafting. His name stems from having skill in handling a difficult situation -- after all, only a few can master the art of the mix – but it’s artful management of his technique that truly defines what he’s about.
