Return from the Rubicon

This month we welcome Ada from our hometown Hamburg to our mix series. Ada already captured our hearts over 20 years ago with her house anthems on Areal Records. Since then she released an album and a single on Pampa. 

Pingipung's very own Andi Otto is part of the Alien Orchestra that supports Ada during her recent shows. You can catch them live on the 12th October in the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. Ada and Andi also DJ together on the 6th July at Jupiter, also in Hamburg.

Lodown presents: Fog Puma "Dreiklangsdimensionen"

Welcome to the eight episode of Dyplytt.

The eight episode is called "Into The Woods" and the title is inspired by the ancient and mythological stories around going into the woods to become mature and basically a grown man (or woman!) for your tribe. As the winter season is closing up on us I can always relate to this feeling about going inwards in to yourself and reflect in order to become more human for whats to come. This way makes it very similar to the old stories, and that is also something I personally have felt as an artist after starting this mix-series. It has given me a bigger foundation to rely on in this tough industry of art and craftmanship.

In the mix I tried to keep it very soft and cozy, but still having a dynamic journey through different genres. I hope and think this one hour of music can be a perfect fit for you who is going into winter hibernation, with a warm blanket, a warm cup of something and a proper fire in your fireplace.

On the occasion of the Radio Thalflug weekend, I played a two-hour djset with tracks from the ECM universe only. 

The music comes from Meredith Monk, Azimuth, Rainer Brüninghaus, Eberhard Weber, John Surman, Pat Metheny, Steve Tibbetts, Tamia & Pierre Favre, Codona, Nana Vasconcelos, Steve Eliovson, Veljo Tormis, Ketil Bjornstad, Don Cherry.

ECM was founded by Manfred Eicher in Munich in 1969 and soon developed into a melting pot of interesting musical fusions. Jazz, folk, classical music, various African, Asian, South American and European sound idioms, minimalism, ambient, avant-garde and electronic music came together in the ECM cosmos. Artists such as Don Cherry, Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Jon Hassell, Eberhard Weber, Carla Bley, Keith Jarrett and Arvo Pärtt have found a home there.

ABOUT Cigarra:

Ágatha Barbosa (Cigarra) is a DJ, VJ, performer and producer from São Paulo and currently living in Lisbon, Portugal. She is a member of Tropical Twista Records and the VOODOOHOP collective. She also leads 2 parallel projects: Jardim Eléctrico that focuses on audiovisuals and Jardim das Descoisas that focuses on kinderculture.

In her sets, Brazilian rhythms and exotic, world sounds combine with contagious low frequencies and hypnotic, seductive cuts. Playing sets for 10 of her 30 years, Cigarra released her first EP “Límbica” with tracks that have been part of the most recent history of her collage work. Her research for this EP is based on cultures that are ancestral and organic, urban and synthetic, and includes ghetto-electronics and psychedelic rock. The EP has 6 tracks based on sampling. Each one resembles a hurricane in a woman’s voice and is powerful.

Here's the recording for my DJ set from July 2nd, 2017 at the Katerblau Kiosk, hands down my favorite place to play music in Berlin.  The whole venue is a wonderland of discovery, the staff is extremely kind and hospitable, and I don't think I've played for a more open minded crowd in all of Europe. Longer sets allows you to take your time and be patient with the music, and the mixing.  The slow building journey I had imagined in my mind, was possible to make a reality, and extra time allowed me to experiment as well. This was probably my favorite gig of my entire 2 month Summer Sol Europe Tour. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I had creating it in the Kiosk.  Thanks to Mira, Britta, Martin, Claudia, Joyce, David, Brett, Toto, Sylvie, Dorin, any other friends I may have forgotten who were there, and especially to all you lovely dancers who joined me on this ride. »The inspiration behind my Seaside Trip journey is this amazing poem by the beloved Pablo Neruda, called The Sea. To me, what Pablo seems to be telling us is that the sea is a living, breathing organism, whose essence is an ongoing, caressing movement. All seas, like all human lives, are joined in a certain, unbreakable way. I need the sea because it teaches me,
