First and foremost Rebecca Vasmant has a deep obsession with music and sound and from a young age has always been interested in how sound works. This obsession has lead onto becoming one of the most cutting edge DJs around playing all genres of music within sets. Techno, House, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco and world music are all predominant in her sets, bringing her love of both electronic and live music onto the dance floor. Known for being credible and unique, Rebecca has made a huge blast onto the scene. Having headlined in over twenty two countries worldwide, she is fast becoming an established name within the industry. Brazil, Nicaragua, Africa, India, Dubai, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Spain, Bosnia, Istanbul, Latvia, and Austria already under her belt and with Mexico and Brazil to come, being resident for Cabret Volataire Edinburgh and having played at places like We Love Space Ibiza, Zoo Project Ibiza, Back To Basics Leeds, We Love Sankeys Manchester, The Arches Glasgow, Sub Club Glasgow, Buff Club and Saundhaus Glasgow, Snafu Aberdeen, Rockness festival, The wickerman festival, The Tunnel Aberdeen, Cabret Volataire Edinburgh, Bongo Club, GRV and the Caves Edinburgh, Soulist Soundsystem Paris, Turnmills London, Ministry Of Sound London, East Village Shoredich, Public Life London and Pacha London, Also having headlined the Warehouse Bristol alongside Tommy Four Seven and Tania Von Pear, Open Air Festival in Milan quarterly and the Arches with Sebastian Leger, and not to forget her regular warehouse parties in her hometown of Glasgow her name is ever rising in the Electronic Music Scene. Playing along sides the likes of Dave Clarke, Tom Middleton, Greg Wilson, DJ Format, X-press 2, SLAM, Green Velvet, DJ Pierre, Silicon Soul, Funk D Void, Billy Nasty, Justin Robertson, Terry Farley, Tommy Four Seven, Chris Leibing, Edit Select, Erol Alkin, Mylo, Riva Starr, Jo Mills, Dj Falcon, Milton Jackson, 6th Borough Project, Underground Paris, Fabio Monesi, Cottam, Red Rack Em, Paul Oakenfold, Joey Negro, Shit Robot, Tania Von Pear, Luciano, Hans Bouffmyre, Larry Tee and of course Harri and Domenic of Glasgow to name a few and fronting a monthly residency in Glasgow alongside James Johnston, Rebecca is also set to line up alongside many more... As a Producer Rebecca has had releases on labels such as Universal Music, Amour recordings and various others and is currently working on a first album due to drop late 2013, as well as collaborating with some of the best names in the underground house and techno scene as well as working on various live Jazz projects under her second alias which will see her name grow even further. Rebecca will be launching her own label in 2014 which will see the collaboration of various Jazz artists, musicians and electronic musicians working together to create a fusion project pushing music to the forefront of scenes which less contemporary styles of this music would perhaps not normally be seen within. On top of all of this Rebecca hosts a monthly party in her hometown of Glasgow alongside James Johnston (No Matter What Records) which has seen names such as Tom Middleton, Jeremy Underground (My Love Is Undergound), Terry Farley, Fabio Monesi (Wilson Records), Milton Jackson, Cottam and 6th Borough Project, with names such as Rick Wade, Terrance Parker, Kez Ym and many more to come Rebecca also promotes a bi monthly record fair at the Sub Club in Glasgow which sees many labels and vendors trading records, allowing people to come together for a day to appreciate music and support record sales. Labels such as Jazzman Records, Soma Records, Starla Records and many independent vendors trading Jazz, Funk, Latin, Classic Disco, Nothern Soul, World Music and many more regularly trade at the event as well as live art and music on the day.

Greg Foat has always had a great reverence for the musicians that featured on the records he has collected over the years. Whether they were players from the great European library catalogs, Italian soundtracks, American Jazz but most of all British Jazz. After Art had played on a few sessions for Greg both were keen to record an LP together. Plans were hatched during lockdown and everyone headed to Edinburgh as soon as allowed, to an unassuming metal door that leads to a renowned studio with a large live room with a stunning Neve desk. Chamber Studio has a long Edinburgh heritage, known for recordings from Mogwai to everyone's favourite The Vaselines.

Greg & Art wanted to do something experimental so they brought in an interesting and challenging mix of new musicians along with a large pile of synthesizers and effects pedals. The result is a fantastic melting pot of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic ideas and motifs.

Stone cold classic, although Pastime Paradise has been reissued a couple of time on compilations every single reissue has used the rocky LP version which is not nearly as good as the original 7" cut. As we at Athens of the North like to do things right we went back to the Sony Tape vault and had the 7" version transferred for the first time since the O.G 45 was cut. This 45 sounds fantastic, much stronger then the O.G 45 cut so it's a no brainer. On the flip we took one of our favourite track from the LP and introduced it to 7" for the first time, Mambotango is a dreamy sountracky latin disco number I used to spin on warm up duty, very new York.

Two gold standard musical compositions I won’t insult by labelling with a genre. 'Truth is the key' is one of my favourite tracks period, the Arp solo just does it for me in every way. The vocal will be familiar as Irene Datcher also sang on the James Mason LP (who also features on these tracks) . 'Dreamflower' should need no introduction, famously Sampled by Erykah Badu’s ‘Didn't Cha Know ‘ and many others. This is a sublime landscape is notable for Ryo Kawasaki’s dreamy guitar work, Stone cold classic.  Both sides surprisingly have never graced the 7” format until now , absolutely essential 45.

I'll be honest, I had forgotten about Samuel Jonathan Johnson until i heard Theo Parrish play it recently. I used to spin the LP years ago but my copy got lost or beat. Soon as I heard it I made a call and sorted out the 45, just an amazing solid Groove on Sweet Love, you cant help but feel it. The flip 'Reasons; is the other great track from the same Columbia LP 'My Music' . First time on 45 for both of these, once they are gone that is it. Disco Essential

Did somebody say AOTN 12". For our first large format singe we bring you the unreleased full length version of the original Symbol 8 classic "I thought you wanted to dance". The track was featured on American Band Stand in the late 70's but failed to make it for the usual reasons (luck, management and distribution) but that is no marker of quality, these tracks are disco and modern soul royalty . Charlie Adams versatile vocal flipping into falsetto with ease while the band holds the solid groove is a special thing. On the flip-side is later and very different version of "I thought you wanted to dance plus a personal favourite and long time spin of my own "call me". Essential as always.

First time the full version of the Jazz-Funk classic LP track 'Too Soon Your Old' has been cut to 45, essential.

Penny Goodwin grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin singing in church with Al Jarreau, doing weddings, talent competitions and bar mitzvahs. When she left school she started singing in popular mob run clubs such as Alfie's, Sardino's, and King's Four graduating to clubs in Chicago and Caesar's Palace in Vegas. Despite her huge talent only this one studio LP exists, a mix of covers by Marvin Gaye, Gill Scott Heron plus original songs by herself and manager Sy Lefco. The LP also featuring strings by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and jazz guitar legend Phil Upchurch. One of the great american jazz vocal LP's by Milwaukee's unsung queen of jazz.

Gospel Disco time Again!!!! After the sucess of "The Power of You're Love" we deceded to pull out a couple more of our gospel disco dancefloor favorites. Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark-Terrell ( who was in the the Clark Sisters before going solo) Recorded this beast for the LP Ye Shall Receive Power in 1980-81 for Armen Boladian's Sound Of Gospel Records out of Detroit (A Sub of the mighty Westbound Records). Both tracks featured on the LP only so desperatly need some 45 action. I'm not going to try and sell you this one with tales of its history all you need to do is drop the needle (or press the little play icon)..... Straight up monster dancefloor destructor.

Having notched up over a decade of playing together under various guises, Grupo Magnético are finally ready to release their debut album El Sonido Magnetico on Atenas Del Norte, imprint of acclaimed label Athens of the North.

The Forthcoming LP saw the band performing together with a supporting stella cast of guest singers and musicians from Colombia, New York, Cuba, Venezuela and the UK, who’s credits include playing and recording with legends including the likes of Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and Ray Barretto. 

These live tracks were mixed in New York by acclaimed Grammy award-winning producer Aaron Levinson, who has previously worked with Fania Records, Bio Ritmo, Jimmy Bosch and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra.

Luiz Mendes Jr or "Junior Mendes" was a ubiquitous figure in the
Brazilian Soul / Funk scene of the 70s and early 80s, contributing to
compositions for bands such as Banda Black Rio , Tim Maia, Sandra de Sá and many more. This, his only solo album has remained fairly off the map (unless your a collector of rare Brazilian vinyl). Despite his huge contribution to Brazilian music the LP has remained unissued until now on anything but the O.G LP, 35 years after its recording. So Athens of the North are putting that right with a remastered CD and LP.

O.k Straight up disco banger that is way beyond most paycheques on 45. As featured on the Numero Group compilation Ultra-High Frequency's. Numero actually just beat me to a punch doing a deal on this. I has spoken to Donnell loads, he always seemed to be in a restaurant car park when I called, he was always happy to sing down the phone and talk about his recordings but we never got round to signing a deal.
