Wah Wah 45s are proud to present their debut Record Store Day special release!

In 2014 the label celebrates not only its 15th anniversary, but, with this record, its 50th seven-inch release, and it’s something very unique indeed. 

Two of the imprints best love artists, East End brass juggernaut Hackney Colliery Band, and funky Canadian piano maestro Henri-Pierre Noel come together on seven inches of wax for the first time, remixed by label boss Scrimshire and superstar disco re-edit king The Reflex.

Scrimshire’s re-working of HCB’s version of Kanye West’s All Of The Lights is a horn fuelled left-of-centre club bomb, whilst The Reflex’s ‘revision’ of Henri’s classic Diskette is a disco fuelled take that’s sure to cause plenty of dance floor devastation too. 

Having both on one slab of strictly limited heavyweight vinyl with gorgeous, bespoke artwork to celebrate the label’s 50th seven-incher is almost too much! Enjoy!

Wah Wah 45s are proud to present the brand new single from one-man horn driven funk music machine, The Gene Dudley Group.

Following on from last year’s debut long-player, and a run of gigs and festivals with his band, including touring Europe as Stones Throw artists Myron & E’s new backing band, Gene Dudley returns with a taste of things to come and his first ever vocal offering on 7-inches of wax. Those vocals come courtesy of London singer and erstwhile DJ, the wonderfully monikered Anne Frankenstein, whose contribution to Gene’s canny cover of Richard “Groove” Holmes’ classic No Trouble On The Mountain is something of a floor filler and a rather fitting release in Wah Wah 45s’ fifteenth year, as Holmes’ original was one of the label’s first ever 7-inch releases!

On the flip comes the first real flavour of Gene’s forthcoming sophomore LP, due to drop (on vinyl too!) this November. Stevie Flare is a much more up-tempo and foot friendly affair than previously outings, and has something of a tropical feel courtesy of warm highlife style guitars as well as those trademark Gene Dudley horns.

Look out for the Gene Dudley Group live band playing at a venue near you this autumn, including a special session at London’s Jazz Café on October 24th for none other than BBC 6Music’s funk & soul ambassador, Craig Charles!

The Gene Dudley Group return with another dance floor destroyer! Original cut Dynamite in the Still of the Night features the powerhouse vocals of Anne Frankenstein (who also performed on big hitter No Trouble on the Mountain) just in time to cause explosions around your bonfire!

Another funky cover version given the Gene Dudley treatment. In what is fast becoming something of a tradition, Mr Dudley has taken an early Wah Wah 45s release - in this case Benny Poole's soul/jazz banger Pearl Baby, Pearl - and re-worked it for 2015. Fresh from his contributions to the Zambidoose album, and work with partner Myron for Stones Throw Records, Eric Boss AKA E (from Myron & E) adds some of his trademark vocals into the mix, making this package a double dance floor heavy hitter! 

And don't forget, The Gene Dudley Group's sophomore LP, Zambidoose, is out now!

Canadian soul queen Tanika Charles release the new single "Love Fool".

Produced by Slakah the Beatchild (BBE records), well-know for his work with the Hip Hop superstar Drake, "Love Fool" is Tanika Charles' new single and is taken from her heavily acclaimed debut album "Soul Run". The super soulful new single is built around a funky bass line in which Tanika showcases her impressive vocal skills and her boundless energy.

With roots in Trinidad & Tobago, Edmonton raised Miss Charles presents an immutable charm, at times endearingly abrasive and honest in her vulnerabilities. Lamont Dozier's iconic 1977 song "Back to My Roots" was an underground Disco smash made famous by the great DJ Larry Levan from The Paradise Garage and Club Zanzibar days. I've always played and liked this gem that was buried in my parents record collection when I was growing up. In my later years I have revisited this tune gaining an even greater appreciation for Dozier's genius! :-)

Many DJs in the industry especially younger ones have a superstar attitude, like gods of the turntables, turning each set into a show-off fest of self-importance.
