Let's meet our dj for episode 418, Qua Rush:
Slowly building up his catalogue on labels like Delta 9, Addictive Behaviour, The Dreamers, Sine Audio, + more, Qua Rush developed his production style with extreme attention towards the “deep vibey” side of things. Qua started djing in Italy in 2009 and has since played in countries such as Poland, Slovenia, Netherlands, Croatia and England where he currently mixes and hosts the Delta 9’s Podcast on a monthly basis on Subtle together with Invadhertz and Flipz MC. In 2019 he joined the Drop Art crew as a selector for their London based events.

We begin the start of a new series at Dispatch Recordings, with the first instalment of the ‘History Remastered’ project. Covering the very early days of the label, from 2001-2003, we have remastered the work of original label founder Nos – one half of the Hidden Agenda duo, the other half, of course, being Max Fresh. Some of this material now made available digitally for the first time ever.

Dispatch Recordings was started by the Hidden Agenda brothers in 2001, with the first release being DIS004. Dispatch 1-3 were Hidden Agenda releases on Goldie’s seminal Metalheadz label, so Hidden Agenda continued the series via their own label Dispatch Recordings. Twenty years later, the time seemed perfect to revisit the label’s history and give a selection of the best tunes from the formative years a brand new remaster.

Nos continues the Hidden Agenda project via his own productions, following his brother Max Fresh’s untimely passing in 2016. Label owner and manager Ant TC1 has curated a selection of their very best work, the musical founding blocks of Dispatch given a timely, contemporary makeover. Lovingly remastered by the collective talents of all involved at Black Science Labs Mastering, Labmaster Mastering and AT Mastering.

Many of you will remember the sound of drum & bass circa 2001. For some a golden era of a genre which had recently grown from a British institution into an immense global movement cutting swathes through clubs and festivals the world over. That year saw Manchester’s Future Cut break through with arguably their most memorable and haunting release to date.

Metalheadz catalogue number METH040 was released in the summer of 2001 to the thunderous rush of DJs clamouring for white label promos and the sound of crowds losing themselves whenever it was dropped. The A side, of course, being Future Cut’s ‘Obsession’ – a track oozing with classic Metalheadz hallmarks and overlaid with Jenna G’s infectious vocals. 

Fast forward to 2012 and Metalheadz are preparing to unleash a stunning reworking of this stone cold classic. Set to be released as a limited edition one-sided picture disc vinyl on Metalheadz’ Razor’s Edge offshoot, the Ulterior Motive remix of ‘Obsession’ will undoubtedly bring this beautiful piece of drum & bass to a modern audience.

Ulterior Motive, turn in a respectful and hard-hitting remix that pays homage to Future Cut’s original musical vision while adding enough punch for modern dance floors.

Haunting Headz pads pave the way for Jenna G’s luscious vocal which envelopes you, drawing you in before Ulterior Motive batter your senses with waves of crisp, rolling breakbeats, pounding bass notes and grinding synth stabs. Fans of the original will not be disappointed as Ulterior Motive retain all the signature sound of the original while bringing their own fresh style into the mix.
