Next up in our Origins Tapes series is Zambian Artist Wamya Tembo, who rocketed onto the electronic scene with his musical moniker 'SHE Spells Doom' in 2014 and has been a mainstay ever since. 

SHE Spells Doom's sound holds a plethora of influence: everything from Congolese Rhumba and early 00s Rap to strong House and Techno influences can be heard in their sound. They create music that is often interlaced with a deep love of 80s sci-fi and horror movies, which brings a deeper and darker edge to both their club and experimental cuts. 

SHE Spells Doom's release's span worldwide via labels such as NEVER DECAY, Monstart, and NY’s Créme Records: His electric sets and recorded mixes will have you breaking a sweat from either dancing beginning to the end or getting chills from his electrifying sound design.

With all that being said, we are excited to have SHE Spells Doom join us for Tapes #16 and we firmly believe that 2021 is going to be his best yet..

"The C Powers sound is informed by years spent building electronics and collecting records in Chicago, honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, and helping foster a small yet respected community in the marshes of Savannah GA. Cici began their dj career at age 11 when they finally had saved enough allowance for a set of GLI decks and mixer that came bundled with a sampler. Their current sets often make full use 3 decks in order to toy with the notions of the "sampled" and the "live". While residing back in their home state of Georgia, Cici was holding resident DJ posts at Atlanta's HUNGER club night (with the esteemed TWINS) and their own Cape Fear in Savannah GA (initially founded with SafeSound). C was also the resident DJ for Savannah's own legendary and trashy House Of Gunt performance group who create cross sensory stimulation experiences involving gender blasting action and choreography and also brought in many talented selectors to their MIX events. C has been around.

@yazzus-1 is part of 6 Figure Gang – the rising London club crew which comprises herself, LCY, Dobby, Fauzia, Sherelle and Jossy Mitsu – and for whom the term “doing bits” can be liberally applied. Each member, though, has their own thing going on. As a DJ, Yazzus is all about high-energy selections, ’90s hardcore rave, jungle and footwork, which she tessellates with her own blistering bootlegs made especially for the club. She recently dropped a bunch of these in time for Bandcamp’s most recent fee-waiving day, featuring Britney, Kelela and even Hadouken! as a nostalgic throwback to the glowstick-fuelled days of nu-rave. NAAFI’s OMAAR shoots straight for our heart, providing an excellent DnB and jungle special for our 59th mix - digging out the classics from the likes of DJ Die and Alex Reece for the occasion. 

Hailing from Mexico, OMAAR released his first EP in 2015 on NAAFI where he has become one of their key artists. The label and collective has been pushing the local scene on an international scale, showcasing a hybrid sound that embraces both Mexican culture and new musical styles from abroad. This borderless approach is also the ethos of the somewhat newly-launched label Maloca Records. Founded by Belgian producer and graphic designer Le Motel earlier this year, Maloca Records brings together like-minded artists from all over the world, who have a common theme running throughout their music which tends to be influenced by percussive and natural elements, drawing from the environments surrounding them. 

Today, the label release their debut compilation, Maloca Vol. 1, featuring new tracks from Dengue Dengue Dengue, Nick León, DJ JM, Coen, DJ N.K., Le Motel, Tsongo, and OMAAR himself - further highlighting the amalgamation of global sounds, with his UK Funky-inspired contribution ‘Denumbawon (The Number One)’.
