'Go On' is the first single from A.S.O, a duo comprised of singer/songwriter Alia Seror-O'Neill and music producer Lewie Day.

Day is better known as Tornado Wallace. Under this name, he takes on dance music's tropes and elevates them to heightened emotional states. There is a deft lightness of touch, serious musical chops, and a slight knowing wink to his work. Here, with fellow Australian/Berlin export Seror-O'Neill aka Alias Error, we're swimming in the deeper end of the same pool. Taking a step away from the dancefloor and crafting exquisite end-times pop music with one eye on the past. The mood is less upbeat and more intimate and reflective.

Let's not knit boots for snails here; the primary reference is trip-hop. But don't fear; this is not insipid coffee shop landfill. On the contrary, it has proper emotional heft and maturity. Over its three-minute run time, 'Go On' draws you completely into its world. It manages to be both ethereal and heavy, structurally unconventional without forgoing killer hooks. And O'Neill's voice comes sweet with a side-order of menace. The pair remember that the best tunes never let you get too comfortable. Sure, it has a 'chill out' hue, and you can imagine hearing it alongside those familiar sunset signifiers. But there's something deeper and darker below the surface.

'Go On' seems to exist in a liminal moment where languidness meets exhaustion. That indefinable instant when a high ends and the paranoia is in the post. It's a pretty song for sure, but it has teeth.

Here is the debut, self-titled album from a.s.o., singer/songwriter Alia Seror-O’Neill, and producer Lewie Day. ‘a.s.o.’ is a thematic consolidation of the previous two singles and an impressive artistic progression. Day and Seror-O’Neill show they’ve mastered the format of the radio-friendly pop song and found how to subvert it completely. Across eleven songs, they have built a rich and compelling body of work.

We know where we are now, emotionally complex, trip-hop torch songs for club freaks. But the palette has broadened to encompass ethereal dream pop à la Cocteau Twins, slow-burning AOR-soul, and dubwise stylings. As a result, ‘a.s.o.’ is a satisfyingly coherent listen but never a musical monoculture. Variously there are nods toward Julee Cruise, Fleetwood Mac, and the uneasy listening of Portishead. It’s an album that wears its influences lightly, is never weighed down by them, and always sure of its own identity.

It’s anchored by Alia’s unique voice. Her words speak of restraint and release, taking us from the elegiac to the euphoric. This elegantly crafted, perfect pop music sounds like it has had enough of your shit. And Day’s music is the perfect foil; deep, slightly menacing, restrained, and powerful. The album has a cinematic texture, as with David Lynch; the seemingly familiar becomes uncanny and strange the closer we look. a.s.o. take our emotions for a joyride before leaving us floating in space.

‘a.s.o.’ is a journey; by its end, we all are changed.

Digital Spiritual is a bold journey into the essence of identity in the digital age. Delay Grounds uses an eclectic array of sounds, sourced from months of social media audio and personal music archives dating back to his childhood. The track "Everything I Ever Made" is a masterful collage of all his unreleased material, while "Algo Selfie" ingeniously converts spectrograms of his own face into a droning bass line.

The album’s visual counterpart, created in collaboration with artist W.W. Irving, further blurs the lines between the digital and the physical. The AI-generated cover art merges every photo of Delay Grounds on the internet with 500 selfies, resulting in the ultimate “Algorithm Selfie” designed to exploit social media’s facial recognition algorithms for maximum exposure.

Digital Spiritual is an introspective dialogue between the physical, digital, and metaphysical realms. It invites listeners to connect, befriend, and transcend the superficiality of digital interactions. With influences ranging from left-leaning club music to IDM, and artists like Animal Collective, Clark, and Broadcast, Delay Grounds crafts an emotionally complex, intellectually stimulating experience that is as thought-provoking as it is danceable.
