Something we absolutely love about the expansion of bass music around the world, is the steady but undeniable overlapping with other, more established genres, blurring the lines to the point where everything falls under one all powerful umbrella genre. This latest outing is a perfect example of that, as we are joined by the good folk at House Of Hustle to get involved with their latest release from Bor & Mar alongside Lalzin.

The lines most certainly blur for this one, and we think it's an awesome thing. Let's take a little look at all of the involved parties before jumping into the track itself, kicking off with the label itself. House Of Hustle have been competing at the upper end of UK house music for quite some time now, with the London based imprint intent on showcasing the freshest, most colourful creations with a serious level of consistency in the music they have been releasing.

With Bor & Mar, there isn't much to not like about the Lyon based duo, who have a had a fantastic year of releases so far. boasting weighty drops on the likes of Box Of Cats and Tons & Tons. Lalzin also gets involved with this one, and we couldn't be more excited to see it as the fellow Frenchman, this time based in Rennes brings his own unique touch to proceedings.

The track itself is a heater, there's no denying it for us. It takes the name 'Mess Around' and is a perfect hybridization of bass and house music, boasting warping, high energy bass synthesizers, layered expertly between super groovy drum riffs and extensive percussive placement. When you couple this with glittering atmospheric pads and tidy vocal slices, you sure are in for a treat. This one comes as part of the Amsterdam Hustle compilation, a project that features nothing but 4x4 belters, start to finish!

1. What made you decide that you want to start producing?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom signed my up for Bollywood dance classes when I was little, so the love of dance has always been a part of me. I really began my journey with electronic music while I was a sophomore at UC Berkeley I was a wall flower business major and music was one of my only real outlets to show I could “fit in”. I was the guy on the aux cord every weekend until I taught myself how to Dj and ultimately began making music. It’s been such an incredible journey of self discovery so far.


2. Why did you pick this song of all songs to remix? Any special place in your heart for the Gorillaz? (I mean who doesn't love the Gorillaz?)

This has always been one of my favorite songs. When I was in music school at Icon in LA the Gorillaz headlined Outsidelands Fest (2017) a San Francisco based music festival. I ended up sneaking onto stage just in time to watch the Gorillaz perform this song live to a crowd of 100,000+ people. The song has never sounded the same and as a result was stuck in my head for weeks, months, years even. Fast forward to a few months ago when this bootleg was written I was at the peak of a new relationship that was healing so many old wounds. On Melancholy Hill was my top played song of 2019 shout out Spotify algorithmic playlists.  It all made sense it was the fastest I’d ever written a song.

4. Drop some wisdom, any advice to the producers just breaking out into the scene?

I was never a musician in the classical sense music theory is something I still battle with on a regular basis. What I will say is that somewhere along the way I’ve learned to trust my ear more than anything and it’s gotten me some really interesting results (not all of them have worked). So I suppose trust your ear, and make music every day. The results won’t always be a number a song or even an idea that you like. Trust the process and laugh at yourself ALL THE TIME. 


5. Tell us more about Boiz House and what you got going on!

I get giddy even as I write this but Boiz House is literally my everything. I’ve been lucky enough to form a live music dj boy band with my best friends from college and there truly is no other feeling in the world like it. We’ve traveled across most of the west coast and played on some of the biggest stages at the biggest festivals out here together playing music that we’ve been working on in our living room. It’s been a truly joyful and testing experience as an Artist to be thrown into the pits (or backyard pool) of producing for weeks on end with some of your harshest critics but at the end of the day having the time of our life has always been essential to our journey.  If you haven’t heard of Boiz House you definitely will be soon! We start our West Coast Party Tour in Seattle this February so you might catch us in your neighborhood! Stay tuned because we boiz love house, bass, funk, jazz, disco, breaks, hip-hop & everything in between. You’re in for a boogie like no other. 


6. Whats one of your favorite production tips that when you learned it, totally changed the game for you?

Chicago house favourite Gene Farris returns to Toolroom with his latest single 'Nursery' this April.
