80's R&B Funk Old School Mix - "And The Beat Goes On"

While surfing Souncloud, This so Call "DJ Fresh P" stole my mix that posted on my site years ago. I find that funny, but give credit where credit is due. I love the fact that it did so well... lol....  
Note: This was recorded in early 2000′s before Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson’s Passing. 

New Jack Swing or should I say “Swang” Mix. Super producer, Teddy Riley, is credited for creating this genre of music that changed the game. With this new sound, he was one of top producers for artist of the 90′s era. As a member and producer for his group “Guy”, along with fellow members Arron Hall and his brother Damion Hall, They manage to create a new style of R & B with there self title album “Guy”. The album went Triple Platinum in 1988. With the success of the New Jack Swing along came the copy cat producers, AKA Dr. Dre, trying to tap into this pot of gold, but that was not Dr Dre’s style. Later down the years, it was Dr. Dre’s turn to shine with his Gagsta Hits and production. Teddy Riley produced many recording artist in the 90′s including The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Dangerous remains the most successful New jack swing album of all time with 32 million copies sold. Just a little history of New Jack Knowledge. With that said, here is my New Jack Swing Mix. New Jack Swing is the first music I really started listening to and collecting.  I don't really remember songs from the 80's because I was born in '82, but I remember all of my schoolmates liked New Kids on the Block, and I hated bullshit bubble gum pop like that.  It wasn't until around 1990 that I really started paying attention to the radio.  The stations I remember at the time were Hot 97.7, 106.1 KMEL, and Wild 107.7 (Now Wild 94.9).  I would spend all day listening to those stations and recording the songs on tape, or watching MTV and recording the videos on my VCR.  I'll never forget when I got a CD player for my 10th birthday.  I worked odd jobs cleaning up yards and so forth so I could save up money to buy my first CDs, which ended up being Michael Jackson's "Dangerous", Mariah Carey's self titled first album, Janet Jackson's self titled album, TLC's "Ooooooh on the TLC Tip", Boyz II Men's "Cooleyhighharmony", and Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison".  I listened to those CDs non stop (especially MJ) and drove my parents insane.  If you listen to most of my mixes, you can detect a bit of soul in almost every one.  It's because my roots as a music lover comes from music like this.

A quick cut, paste and re-EQ edit of this wonderful boogie funk track by Janice Bulluck from her 1987 album 'Don't Start A Fire'. The LP version has a short intro so I re-arranged it and also gave the bass some boost as on the original is lacking a lot of low end. It's a fantastic track with a killer breakdown and build up in the middle, the rest of the album is also worth checking with 3 or 4 more good tracks on there.

For Black History Month I decided to create a mix honoring a genre African American’s don’t get a lot respect or credit for HOUSE MUSIC. Some say house music originated from a Chicago club called the Warehouse, which existed from 1977 to 1983. Clubbers to the Warehouse were primarily black, who came to dance to music played by the club's resident DJ Frankie Knuckles, who fans refer to as the "godfather of house”. In the 80’s & 90’s most of these Black House Music Artists always included an inspiring message in their songs to uplift the community. In this mix I Included different house music classics from different areas like New Jersey (Zanzibar), New York, Baltimore & Chicago.
