80's Electro Soul Mix

DJ Imani, is the music lover’s DJ, and a true collector of many genres of music.  He started collecting music at 8 years old in 1990 after spending most of his time glued to MTV.  His early collections were mostly soul albums by artists such as, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, TLC, Bell Biv Devoe, Jodeci, Janet Jackson, Boys II Men and many others.  Eventually he drifted into Hip Hop, with his first concert being a Queen Latifah show.  When he was old enough to get a job, he started working at various record stores, but most of his earnings went right back into buying music.  

In the early 2000’s, he became heavily influenced by various electronic music genres and started going to raves.  By the time he went to college, he studied radio broadcasting and became the music director for his college radio station, and won an award for broadcaster of the year.  By the mid 2000’s, he started DJing in bars and clubs frequently, and working at Clear Channel radio as an audio editor. He also began a small internship at Om Records.  He began producing mashup songs and releasing countless DJ mixes.  He eventually landed his own late night electronica show called Midnight Chill, on the commercial radio station KKSF 103.7, acting as both music director and host.  

In 2010 he decided to create a new alias named Nebakaneza and started spinning Dubstep music. He would perform with a mask on and various costumes, and would throw various things at his crowds, such as: beach balls, toilet paper rolls, tortillas, silly string, plastic toys, candy and much more.  He started a weekly event in San Francisco with his business partner Johnny 5, called Ritual, which lasted for 3 years and at one point was the largest reoccurring Dubstep event on the West Coast.  They eventually expanded into Los Angeles and other clubs in San Francisco.  Later, he became a music director for another commercial radio station, Live 105, for their late night dubstep program, Wobble Wednesday.   in 2014 he was on the cover of the SF Bay Guardian newspaper and won their annual Goldie award.

In 2015 he created his 3rd alias, Danny Delorean, in order to focus on Synthwave, Retrowave, Outrun, Nu Disco, Chiptunes, and other retro inspired dance music. He is a resident DJ of Turbo Drive, which is the biggest Retrowave party in the world, and has started his own Synth based party with his co-host FACT.50, called Neon Black. Around this time he also had a brief internship at Surefire Agency, and continues to also DJ at various freelance gigs, such as weddings, birthdays and corporate events.
