In December 2006 I got asked to do a live DJ set on Power 106 in LA, one of the biggest hip hop radio stations in the country. They said it was a special series where I could play any genre of music and wanted it to be like a club set. DJ AM had done one before that was so dope, so I felt I had to do something dope as well. I made a ton of custom edits and practiced at home to make sure the time would be exact. I had never DJed on a major radio station, only small college radio shows. 

I was just coming off DJing only on vinyl for 10 years. The DJ program we were using called Serato was very new and had just come out about a year or so earlier, so it was a whole new world of DJing. Eric Dlux and DJ Echo were the hosts and made it so much fun with their energy and ability to hype anything up. There is even a youtube video of parts of that day. After my set Fashen went on to do an amazing set too. So many people heard this mix live on the radio it was insane, and thankfully someone recorded it somehow, with the radio static and all. As most of you should know already – I am very interested in all different styles of music. I decided to make a mix dedicated to one of the most important chapters in music history: The Beatles!

It took me more than 20 hours of watching DVD´s – the whole Beatles Anthology box-set (big up my partner in crime Fab) plus 3-4 more documentaries and live shows just to look for all the samples and skits between and on most of the tracks. Well, it was very interesting to learn so much about the most influential band in history. Screaming girls, packed performances and a rock ‘n’ roll life in combination with a very smart business plan behind it, the Beatles had it all when they were at their peak in the 1960s. With more than 40 different No. 1 hits and more No. 1 albums than any other UK band (with a total of 15), The Beatles proved, award-wise, that they were at the top of their rocked-out game…

I decided to make this mix 2 years ago  (it´s not a typical mixtape) in honor of this great group – exactly 40 years after they broke up in April 1970.
