FIRST BASS :: Compiled & Mixed By Jason Le Roux

In the winter of 2007 I was in Johannesburg, South Africa on one of those roller coaster rides of a phone call that you tend to have when in a long distance relationship. 

During that call I had an idea, to create an album with a series of songs that would each represent every month we were apart. Kind of like a musical diary. 

In truth it was a love letter but instead of words, there was music. As usual, it seemed to be the only way I could properly express & articulate my feelings & thoughts.

After what felt like an eternity the album was finished. I sent the one & only copy to her and made a phone call. That night, far apart in distance but somehow connected in spirit, we sat together & listened to the entire album. A magical & emotional journey that would later come to be known as "Diary 001".

Over the next few years I made 2 more "Diary" albums. The third & final dubbed "The Journey Home", aptly named as we both made our way home, together. 

This is my story...

Episode 003 is inspired by a recent trip to the beautiful island of Zanzibar. With it's powdery white beaches, friendly locals, untouched sea life & an ancient city dating back to the 19th century (Stone Town), I will definitely be going back to this special place. The land of the Maasai warrior.

For episode 004 I take inspiration from a recent trip to Ibiza, Spain. It's referred to as "The clubbing capital of the world", and they're probably right. With the most famous party brands & Superclubs & the worlds biggest DJ's with their weekly residencies, it easy to get caught up in the well deserved hype. Although there are 2 sides to Ibiza & I thought it would be fitting for the Diary series to tell you the story of the quiet beauty, secluded beaches, bohemian lifestyle & literally, the most famous sunset in the world. Enjoy!

A bite sized, geographically inspired, musical journey.

For episode 005 I take inspiration from one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Now of course I may be a little bias as it is the place which I am blessed to call home. Not only that, but It is the place where I grew up, the place where I choose to live & no matter where I have traveled around the world, it is the one place I will always come back to. A country full of peaceful people, rich in culture & blessed with soul-stirring beauty. I believe there is something special about Zimbabwe, once it's touched you, it stays with you forever. The sound of Fish Eagles in the day & Nightjars at night. The smell of the first rains & happy childhood memories. This is my home.
