So here's an old remix I did back in '98/'99 off one of my old beat tapes, Xperado featuring O.C., this was back when I use to make beats on the Roland JS-30, after I made a beat I would sometimes find an accapella and make a remix, sometimes it worked other times it didn't sound so good.

I did this mash-up/blend back in 2002 for "Forth & Back", I was kind of pissed they didn't use the original "Funkin' For Jamaica" sample on "Fantastic Vol. 2" album, so I took an old cassette advance dub of album I had for years and blended it with an instrumental I just found which gave me the idea to do this mash-up. It's kind of sloppy but I only did it for personal listening but since I still had this on one of my old flash drives, I decided to share it with you all...enjoy.

I had to go back in the cassette vaults to pull out some old remixes I've done back in the 90's when I was using my first sampler, the Roland JS-30, so today you get to hear a real lo-fi track, I'm glad I did transfer my old beat tapes to mini-disc years ago, cause the actual cassette sounds worse now since my tape deck is pretty old, heads need mad cleaning, anyway, enjoy this treat from the vaults & stay tuned for more.

I remember when I was first given the 12" for this song by maybe Marucs Blocker (a hired local street teamer for various indie labels), during this time I was doing my mixtape rounds & making beats as well, so I told him I was going to make some remixes for him to hear (yeah I was ahead of myself cause I kind of knew he didn't give a fuck, he was just handing out single for promotional reasons).  Anyway, that week I ended up making like six remixes for it, yeah I got carried away, two of the beats I ended up putting on my retail beat tape "Basement Beatz From Da East" ( https://djjoeyjoe.bandcamp.com/…/basement-beatz-from-da-east ) a few years later & named them "Willing To Survive".  So I guess I'll just let you hear them in the next upcoming months but not back to back.

This remix was done back when this 12" was released in '97, later on this group changed their name to Made Men.  Some of you might remember this beat cause the it was one of the beats I put on my retail old beat tape "Basement Beatz From Da East" ( https://djjoeyjoe.bandcamp.com/track/sweet-nautilus ) this was the vocal I originally made this beat to, some of you might also notice the main sample "Nautilus" as well.

This is another remix, 1 of 6 remixes I did of the Broadway single "Will To Survive", that I guess I was bored when I made these to challenge myself I could do it.  This version I kind of liked more, maybe that's the reason why I included the instrumental version of this on my retail beat tape "Basement Beatz From Da East" ( djjoeyjoe.bandcamp.com/…/basement-be…-from-da-east ) a few years later & named them "Willing To Survive".  I still have a few jazzy hip-hop versions to upload as well, in the next coming weeks.

This is the other remix I did sometime back in time between late '96- early '97 with another version of my "Chemistry Project" beat (the other was the Pharcyde "Runnin'" remix I post last week). Of course it's another remix from the cassette vaults that was done on the Roland JS-30. This week I decided to pick an old MPC beat I've had on the computer for mad years, I think I made this joint between 2003 to 2004, not really sure, but this wasn't the original beat but the second version, the original was done back in 2001 with a totally different drum pattern.  If you can guess where the pic is from, then you will know where I got the sample from.  I still have the diskettes to this, but everytime I try to work on it, I never do anything more than mess with the effects and then just turning the machine off, maybe one day I will actually finish the beat but until then, enjoy this old beat "Dynamic Lealone".

This was during the time when I was trying to make remixes instead of just finding & throwing acappellas over beats I made that night.  I never cared for the original beat to this song, it felt too commercial, so I felt like it was time to challenge myself with this joint.  I don't remember all what I sampled but I do know I sampled the actual bassnote of the song, sampled 1 or 2 different Crusaders songs, and the drums from a drum loops record.  I liked it so much that I ended up putting the instrumental on my beat tape "Basement Beatz From Da East" ( https://djjoeyjoe.bandcamp.com/track/reminding-me-of-self-1st-mix-again ) later on.  I then made a second version of this beat with slowed down samples for a different vibe, I might post that one sometime soon.

One day while making a beat back in late '96, I had the LP to "Wild Style" sitting in front in a stack of records, I decided to take the "Stoop Rap" and blend it with the beat I made just messing around, it was the first time I got the idea to start putting vocals to my beats & whatnot.

This remix was done sometime between '97 - '98, it's another one of those joints where I just found a random accapella to throw over a beat I was making at the time.  During this time I was still sampling from one of my favorite albums by Tom Scott, I think I've sampled every song from that album at one point in time, and the drums are very obviously from KRS One's "Black Cop" which I've used a few times as well.   Of course the instrumental version of this featured on my beat tape "Basement Beatz From Da East ( https://djjoeyjoe.bandcamp.com/track/honeysuckle-flow )" for those that are interested in hearing it.

This during the time when I was making beats I was trying to make cleaner sounding beats rather than muddier ones, also I did make this beat to fit the vocals ahead of time.  I sampled a Spyro-Gyra song "Harbor Nights" which I always wanted to do since I owned that album for a long time.  I think I should've used a heavier drum loop though.

This version I didn't care for at first but I wanted to give it a lighter feel than the hip-hop versions I did earlier (and all these versions were done all in one day too). For this old remix, it's not much that can be said, I was still using the Roland JS-30 to make beats, but was still trying to conform to a standard formula where kats would want to rap over but still was doing all timing & music changes linear.  I remember making this beat, but forgot all about this remix until I started going thru my old mini-discs, oh yeah I was recording all my beats & mixes on mini-disc after 1998 instead of cassette, so the recordings also were sounding much clearer.  I think I made this beat back in early 2000 or late 1999, not really sure; anyway enjoy this old boom-bap remix.

This is just another remix I did on the fly back in late 1999, I found this ill Tomita song I had to make a beat out of.  First I threw a drum break over the beat just practicing with it like I usually do with long samples I find, and then I decided to just sample the drums, loop it, then loop up the sample and chop it up, but I didn't really do too much chopping.  Afterwards I found an accapella to pair up with it, which happen to be this Brand Nubian 12" I had near by, and boom, another remix in the can.

This is just another remix I did back in the day on the Roland JS-30, I was just playing around making a beat and liked how I constructed it with sampling smaller bits instead of longer loops & better e.q.ing of my sounds beforehand.  I knew everyone has sampled Kool & The Gang, so when I making the beat I wanted to approach it differently which I did, after making the beat I arranged it to fit the accapella of Organized Konfusion's verses.  Later on I hear two songs that Madlib produced that used the same samples that I used years earlier on this song, I guess great minds think alike. This remix was done sometime in 1999 when I was still trying to make cleaner beats instead of the same ol' dingy beats, so I sampled ATCQ's "Start It Up" drums from and then added my samples to it, at the time I was recording all my beats to a mini-disc so I took the beat from mini-disc and laid an accapella over it which is why the beat sound thinner than when I usually lay vocals on top of the beat the same night I would make the beat.  Personally I didn't like the sonics of this remix which is why I don't think I've ever let anyone hear this until now.

When I received a copy of this cd single, I was hyped Spectac was rhyming again, and I saw it had an accappella on it, I knew I had to do a remix, but I less than a year beforehand I just got my MPC 2000XL, so I wasn't doing anything phenomenal at the time, but I still managed to do some decent beats with it.  At the time I was doing basic boom bap beats and tried to go into that J-Dilla/Q-Tip minimalist zone, hence the title of my remix;  infact some of you might know what the original sample is if you're a EssVee fan, lol.  Personally I didn't really like this beat and wanted to go back to it for years but never did, anyway enjoy another remix from the vaults.

This is the last version, 1 of 6 remixes I did of the Broadway single "Will To Survive", that I said I was going to post, but this one of the last jazzy remixes I did.  This version I didn't care for at first but I wanted to give it a lighter feel than the hip-hop versions I did earlier (and all these versions were done all in one day too). I began spinning hip-hop, dancehall reggae, & house music & making mixtapes. Bought my first sampler & learned making beats, then I graduated to the MPC, and haven't looked back since.
