iO (Mulen) is ready with another album. This one is not a surprise one, like his previous one was, that popped up after our huge article about his labels. This one has its own release date, proper landing on Mulen Records and, actually, proper promo period – I heard about its coming here and there for quite a long period of time before its official announcement. Sometimes I couldn’t believe that the track I was hearing was from iO – they were too banging even for his new post-minimal standards. Turned out – I didn’t even hear the ACTUAL bangers on the LP then.

Like his previous LP on Mulen Records, this one will also be divided into 3 parts, each of them will be sold separately. This was probably done with the customer in mind – if you don’t like parts 1 and 2, you can just buy part 3. But, after listening to this one in full I can easily say – it’s hard to believe, that somebody won’t like some of it. It was quite a challenge to pick a track for the premiere – too many great ones. But we still did – and did even more than usual. We’ll have the main track here and two more on our youtube-channel – every record from this trilogy will be represented. So, let’s go. From early residencies at weekly student nights in Glasgow to playing a pivotal role behind the scenes at La Cheetah Club, Big Miz has been immersed within the city's walls since he was a teenager. Weekends spent crafting his sound behind the booth and creating lifelong friendships at the city's famous after-hours scene have helped create an ecosystem for success. In Glasgow, even larger labels are always keen to support local talent and during one of his frequent visits to Rub A Dub Records, Big Miz was introduced to Dixon Avenue Basement Jams which eventually led to the release of his first EP.

Miz has carried this Glasgow courtesy throughout his whole career, which eventually led to connecting with HOMAGE label head Ryan Clover where they exchanged feedback and spins before locking down a release on the label's heavy schedule. The New York based label's ethos shares parallels to Glasgow's - collaborative, fluid, and always ready to party.

Title track 'Where I Belong' wastes no time on introductions, combining a range of hardware and software into a kaleidoscopic recording created for peak time. 'Everything's Fine' demonstrates Miz's knack for groove and melody, where classic acid sounds meet demanding stabs and an irresistible groove. Inspired by early house records, 'The Feeling' makes its presence felt with chunky kick drums and uplifting vocal samples; Big Miz's attention to detail and years of dancefloor education shines through, first establishing a hypnotic introduction and powerful transitions that have us hooked from the first bar.

The EP is beautifully rounded off by LUXE's remix of the title track 'Where I Belong', following on from her standout EP on the beloved label Planet Euphorique. LUXE swaps rolling kick drums in favor of breakbeats and an ethereal backdrop. The space between musical elements is key, allowing us to breathe as our perspective shifts high above the city's clouds.

PREMIERE : Big Miz - Everything's Fine

Mats Lorenzon, aka Renzo is an electronic musician working on Wurundjeri land. An acoustic engineer by trade, Renzo harvests a panoply of samples, which are transformed into glitchy and multi-dimensional drum patterns. 

Accompanied by a forward thinking approach to synthesis, Renzo's sound nods to UK dubstep and drum n' bass, while still being firmly grounded in the current local sound. His productions distinguish themselves in their attention to detail — sweeping FM bass making use of the stereo field, while lush pads open up the groove, adding colour. 

With an ever growing catalogue of releases, Renzo continues to define himself as an adventurous producer, eager to play with genre, though untethered to its confines.
