For nearly two decades, DJ Kapone has been honing his skills, performing live, on his own, as well as with many of the industry’s top artists.
 
Born Christopher Alers , DJ Kapone spent much of his early years in the Bronx. Raised by his maternal grandparents, he also spent time in Puerto Rico, which expanded his cultural views beyond the tough streets of New York. It was in Puerto Rico that he got one of his first big breaks, sharing a stage with heavyweights Cypress Hill. The experience left such a strong impression on him that Kapone knew this was the direction he was to pursue: live performance and direct interaction with the audience.
 
But first, he needed to resolve some long, lingering family conflicts. In 2003, he put his budding career on hold in an effort to improve a fractured family life. His grandfather was a military veteran, and Kapone felt that by joining the armed forces, he might gain the approval of his guardians, whom wanted him to take a different path than music. It was a decision that he regretted, but one that would later open doors for continuing his DJ career.
 
His networking and relationships landed him several contracts with the armed forces for events that take place annually. He’s also shared the stage with a number of major artists, and has traveled throughout the world, sharing his list of talents.
 
DJ Kapone’s strength is knowing his audience and, equally important, knowing his genres. He’s tuned in to the latest in hip-hop, R&B, techno and reggae, and is equally knowledgeable of each genre’s classics. While many DJs rely on the newest releases, DJ Kapone isn’t afraid to reach into the vault. Just a few beats from a legendary gem often sends his audience into a frenzy.
 
DJ Kapone is equally adept on the technical front. He’s worked in audio system development, as well as on audio mix downs and in post production. In addition, he’s acted as a consultant, providing technical advice on both digital and analog workflows. He has also worked as a live sound engineer.
 
With a renewed focus on building his career, DJ Kapone and his management team are exploring new ventures that best capitalize on his range of talents.
