Toting what the label describe as “a fiercely avant-garde sound of way beyond his years” the young Surrey based drum & bass producer, Hyroglifics, just dropped the inaugural release on Critical’s brand new Binary division - their digital only series devote to unearthing new talent. His first three track drop displays a penchant for half time d&b as each tunes rolls with just as much balance and technicality as tunes twice their speed might command. Sticking true to the offshoot imprint’s mantra of embracing the speed and quick fix culture of digital downloads, Hyroglific’s delivers a delightfully unique and rounded take on his sound. 

Making his debut appearance here in Farringdon when he plays the Critical Sound hosted Room Two on Friday 18th July, we asked him if he wouldn’t mind putting together an example of the way he plays, so we could better introduce him – and his music – ahead of the performance.

InnerSoul LIVE - Velocity & Response MC (19.09.14)

Innerground Records has a long history of introducing fresh sounds and with the New Wave Vol. 2 EP this tradition continues in style.

This five-track EP showcases a lot of what is great and good in DnB today. From up and comers such as Satl, Dirtbag and the Brazilian trio of Translate, Simplification & Masterwizard, to The Invaderz and DJ Marky - the tried and tested soldiers of the Innerground camp - we have a beautifully rounded release that delves into the deeper, more melodic side of the genre and attacks the harder side too. Early adopters of the EP have seen tracks aired on Friction's BBC Radio 1 show as well as Bryan G's V Recordings podcast.

New Wave Vol. 2 hits the streets on 30th September as a digital bundle on all major stores.

Shadow Boxers #009 is delivered by by https://soundcloud.com/omnimusicuk label boss, Eschaton. Journeying through the atmospheric side of the label, littered with breakbeats and jungle sounds, this 45 minute mix gives a real insight to the ethos of the Omni Music outlet. 

Omni Music was initially set up in early 2011 to showcase Eschaton's own productions, as some tracks had no natural home on other labels and he felt that there needed to be an avenue for his creations. He had released on net labels prior to this (Digibeat, SC:Digital and Materializm) but felt restricted.

During the label's conception he began to hear a host of other demos by like minded artists, which he felt deserved to be heard by the public and so took the decision to release other artists' music too. The styles on the label vary from jungle to glitchy dnb to chilled out downtempo tracks; the common denominator is always deep thoughtful music spanning both the dark and the light, the ying and the yang. 

Omni has been proud to feature a host of artists throughout the years giving a showcase to new artists, as well as veterans of the scene that inspired Eschaton as he was growing up in the early 90's, as jungle and drum and bass evolved from rave, techno and hardcore.

Notable artists on the label include Pariah, Aural Imbalance, Stunna, Pete Rann, Gremlinz, Voyager, Rob Haigh (Omni Trio), Madcap, DJ Trax, Infest, Future Engineers, Justice, Greenleaf, Fushara, Parhelia, Enjoy, Dissident, Okee, Parallel, Indidjinous, Macc, DgoHn, Acid Lab, and Rainforest, as well as brand new talent such as Wetman, Pageant, I Wannabe, Farquaad, and many many more. Omni has featured over 100 artists during its 200+ EP's, 70+ LP's and its other compilations and downtempo offshoots.

AGN7 Audio is wrapping up 2020 with Indigo Virus' "In A State Of Collapse" EP. Unrestrained from contemporary Jungle/D&B tempos with an emphasis on groove, the release is a selection of tracks ranging between 140 to 160 bpm. The flashback sound of Indigo Virus can be described as nostalgic, while still moving into the future.

"In A State Of Collapse" is a slight departure from his other work, and finds it home on AGN7 Audio. The release also hints at shift in AGN7's direction for 2021, material that focuses more on the breaks, and music you can play your old records with.

As an artist on the "36 Hertz" label, you can catch Indigo Virus alongside DJ Vapour every other Wednesday on koollondon.com.

Indigo Virus - Conversion

After his track 'Gator Skin' receiving airtime multiple times on BBC Radio Introducing in York and North Yorkshire, we are proud to welcome fresh talent Flicka back to Detached Audio to kick off our year with a 6-track EP, showcasing his stunning musicality and flow.

We begin the year with the serene 'Bird in the Basket', featuring close friend Kingsley who delivers a stellar vocal performance over an emotive piano piece that gracefully dances over smooth basslines and a delicate beat. This is followed by 'Gateway', a more traditional liquid roller which is carried through with elegant saxophones and mystical pads.

Flicka turns the noire jazz aesthetic in his music up a notch for 'How Can I' featuring the vocal talents of Chris B. Chris' vocal tones effortlessly sit on top of jazzy chords and a rugged bass guitar, showcasing Flicka's talent in creating pristine vocal-led music. Flicka drops the tempo down for a quick interlude in the form of 'Cadence'. Picking up from where the previous track ended, we get to see this young artist flex his piano skills over a rugged hip hop beat, showcasing his versatility while retaining his signature sound.

'Answerphone' is the penultimate track in this body of work, sultry vocal snippets carry this roller which is in equal parts soulful as it is gritty. This leads into the final track to close this project off, 'Date Night'. The organ takes precedence in this track, with a rustic and vintage vibe reminiscent of early High Contrast work.

"I wanted to create this EP to capture elements of music I associate with. You can hear soul and jazz influences as well as moments of emotion I've always loved from the romantic era of music."
These are the words Flicka has in regards to this project he has created for us and it is clear that he has managed to craft a distinct identity for himself, blending these influences.

"At the time of writing, the country was in a sorry state and I wanted to make music that could take people away from the doom and gloom. If any of the tracks have a positive effect even for just a few minutes, then I've done my job." - Flicka
