Sunday Afternoon Session #01 - The Audition (@ Club Atelier - 06-02-2022)

Here's a Valentine Special from yours truly. I 'made' an edit of David Jones' 'Klappy', in which I enriched the already amazing original with the vocals of a love song of one of the Netherlands best bands of all time; De Dijk. That song is called 'Groot Hart', which translates into 'Big Heart'. It's about a man who keeps getting in trouble because he just has too much love to give. It's one of my favorite songs of all time, so I decided to put it in a groovy jacket. If I'm offending/hurting anyone with this edit, or if David Jones (& co.) or De Dijk (& co) want me to take it offline: please let me know. I'm not seeking fame, I'm just a hobbyist DJ that loves music and creating new things out of beautiful building blocks.

I will ;-)! Every once in a while you have one of those days when everything just flows exactly the way it's supposed to. 

Stepping up to the 1's & 2's on a packed Sophias Saturday, I already knew this was going to be one for the books. 

Many of my favourite chefs, bartenders, cocktailshakers and dishwashers were in the place to be. The vibe was chill but joyfully anticipating, and I decided to go with it. 

I am more than pleased with what that decision turned into, and I hope you'll feel the same. So press play and let the sweet sounds of a Sophias Saturday take you on a journey...

The Sound Of Sophias (04-11-'23)

Honestly, prepping for this set was almost non-existent. I sorted all tracks I added to Sophias-lists on DJ Play Count, and I put all tracks I hadn't played yet into a new playlist. I selected a nice opening track (can't go wrong with a nicely executed Jamiroquai-edit), and away we went. 

I had a lot of fun incorporating some nice surprising set songs that really landed well with the people in the place to be. It has a lot of happiness and uplifting vibes in it, so I hope it can chase your Blue Monday Blues away (if you need it to). 

For me, it feels a bit bittersweet... The set turned out great, but today, I found out, it was the last time that I got to play while king of the kitchen, and very good friend chef Ronnie Zijlstra would make terrible jokes and smile my way if he heard a track he liked... 

This one's for you Ron W.

The Sound Of Sophias (13-01-'24)

Setting out to remix a track that is already pretty perfect is tricky busisness... Still, Whitesquare took Binary Finary's legendary '1998' out for a spin and made it into a whole new entity under the flag of his friends over at Afterlife.

I haven't done anything remotely close to that impressive with this edit. However, as some of you might know; I'm a big movie geek, and a lover of cool quotes from films and tv shows. Sometimes you listen to a track for the 20th time, and if that coincides with recently having seen a particular movie for (at least) the 20th time, you might convince yourself of a magical fit between the two.

And so the LLout's Fear&Loathing Edit of Whitesquare's '1998' Remix was born. All hail to Binary Finary and Whitesquare for the musical part of the inspiration. Mad respect to Johnny Depp, depicting Raoul Duke in F&LILS, but above all: Thanks to Hunter S. Thompson, for etching those legendary words into my long term memory... Forever!

I recommend playing this track when you're somewhere around Barstow... ;)

B-Day Bash Of A Techno Queen (24-02-'24)

Hi guys!

Coming at you with another episode of "The Sound of Sophias", and it's a big one! Easter Monday was upon us; happy families with loads of kids enjoyed a delicious breakfast/brunch/lunch topped off with a mimosa or two. 

And then there was little ol' me, with the clear assignment to serve everybody present some soothing tunes that matched the inactive state they were in. Before I knew it over 6 hours passed, and luckily I had succeeded in creating the desired vibe. Moreover: I had gone full eclectic! 

I'll post the tracklist in a bit for you to gaze upon the diversity in genres and periods in time; it's all over the place. That makes it al the more interesting that the set overall still very much feels like a well-balanced story (at least; to me.). I hope you'll enjoy it! Each last Friday night of the month (except for when my friend Monsieur Dupon is playing ;-) ) I get to play a set at the Grand Café of a beautiful hotel, situated in the old postal office of Leeuwarden: Post-Plaza. Up until a while ago the set times were (for the most part) while hotel guests and other people on a night out are enjoying dinner. Although it has always been a nice challenge to carefully walk along the lines of background music, the recent decision to shift the set times to two hours later on those nights turned out to be quite the game-changer... :-). FLEAUX & LLout - Live At Albertus Magnus KEI-Week 2015, Groningen

Some traditions are just too awesome to ever be broken :)... 

I had the distinct privilege to once again play at the biggest unlicensed Kingsday event in Groningen; the legendary Pret & Fauf Kingsday Extravaganza! The fact that my ambitious planned set time of +- 9 hours turned into a marathon-set just shy of 15 hours, merely reflects the amount of fun I had! 

A thousand 'Thank you''s to everyone who came out and, respectively, listened, smiled, nodded their heads to the groove or danced like K-day '18 was the actual end of days. A special 'Gracias' goes out to the amazing guys living in the two greatest student houses of Groningen and quite possibly the world: Pret & Fauf; these guys have some sublime organizational skills! 

But all of this could not have been without the technical expertise, support and gear of my good friend Christiaan Spruijt; you were truly the only real King in Groningen last Friday!

Live at Kingsday '18 - Pret & Fauf, Groningen (Pt. 1)

I was given the unique opportunity to play a DJ-set on top of Schattberg, a mountain in wintersport heaven; Saalbach, outside on the terrace of a cool restaurant/bar called SkyRest. 

Since it was early in the day, I decided to go with disco. I touched a number of (sub)genres: Italo, Disco, G House, Afro, Deep House and Synthpop being some of them. It wasn't flawless, but man, it was so much fun :)!

Best Of 2019 Yearmix

Trying to make the best of our current situation in these weird times dominated by the corona crisis. We still had a blast though, playing a 6hr livestream for charity @ the brand new Club Atelier! This is the recording of the first 2 hours, my solo-set filled with some catchy Italo tunes. It has a couple of glitches due to it being an audio part of a livestream video recording, but nothing too annoying (I hope ;))... Give it a go :)!

Club Atelier Quarantine Livestream - 05-04-2020

WHAT A WEEKEND (L)!!! I was lucky enough to be invited to play for an awesome group of friends on their perfectly organised party weekend in a rural part of the Netherlands. Together we escaped the COVID-19-reality for a bit and enjoyed what felt like one of the most intimate festivals I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of! Also, I got to dig deep into my peak time techno folders, 'cause these boys & girls love it up-tempo and raw. Turns out, so do I ;)... Stoked that I got to play two unreleased tracks by my friend @tusk_amsterdam as well! See if you can spot them in this 5-hour-journey... Enjoy, and have a dance, or two!

Best Of 2020 Yearmix

For LLout (Lammert Lettinga) it has always been all about the music. Born and raised in a family with a passion for a wide variety of genres, it became an important part of his life from an early age. Shortly after electronic music caught his attention in the mid-00’s, he started DJ’ing and he has been doing so ever since. Feeling right at home behind the decks, often joined by FLEAUX in the early days of their journey behind the decks. Together they are 'Riptide Soundsystem'. They produced a number of tracks with Tusk, and launched a series of dance events on boats, called 'Springtij' (Riptide in English).

For the past decade LLout has been perfecting his style and developed a great set of mixing skills. Because of his broad musical background, he has become an octopus when it comes to playing sets in different styles or combining several styles in one set. Twisting them into a whirlwind of disco, deep house, tech-house, techno and some completely off-genre surprises, to take you on a timeless journey through music.
