巨大ハードコアをたくさん聴いて過ごした1年だったので、最後に巨大ハードコアを作って締めくくりたかった…ってのがデカかったです。いい感じに仕上がりましたのでよしなに。

As Hijack was putting the final touches on getting ready for Heatwave Hijack 2022, we became aware of two things on the day of the show. First, a guest DJ had submitted a 30 minute set, resulting in a 15 minute hole in the time table. Second, and more importantly, one of our guests, the great Round Wave Crusher, was without power for over 18 hours, and there had been no sign at all that power would be restored any time soon. As news got out that RWC might not have the chance to deliver one of his amazing live sets, many people came together to give their energy in hopes that the lights would turn back on. I wanted to BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRing him as much energy as I could in hopes that the power would be restored in time for his slot so everyone could enjoy the amazing creator that is RWC, and thus I created a Round Wave Crusher miniset of some of my favorite tracks of his. Luckily for everyone, everything was fixed in time for Round Wave Crusher to deliver one of his mind-breaking live performances for Heatwave!

You may notice that of the 9 tracks, 5 of them are from Sakura🌸s Heist; I was lucky enough to win the raffle on his live stream on the day of the release of the album, and it's become one of my favorite RWC releases over the years! Sadly I didn't get the chance to include anything from Welcome to Crazy Tokyo, as it was the first physical album of his that I picked up back in Japan. I always loved skating through Tokyo to that one. I hope you enjoy!

How time flies like a Red-White on a scarlet night. Bakkun alerted me that EOSD was about to turn 20, and decided to put on a last minute event celebrating what has become probably the most influential 2hu game of all time. For the celebration, Bakkun was going to play through ESOD on EZ MODO, so I decided to make a fast-paced set with a variety of style changes, hoping that it would somehow occasionally line up to various boss fights or other cool spell-card animations. I considered briefly doing only ESOD songs, but due to a combination of not feeling like I'd have enough time to make something really cool and having a variety of faster 2hu I wanted to play, I opted against it. Who knows, maybe next year for PCB? I hope you enjoy!

AniCour! 第4話 appeared and went as swiftly and silently as the stealthiest ninja or a skilled samurai. Despite planning for the event almost since 第3話, it was upon me before I knew it, and what an event it was. I'm continually blown away by how creative everyone is; DJs had all kind of mashups from 3-track layered bangers to ethereal OST symphonies, anime-theme connections, incredible story weaving, and passion exploding from both the music and visuals. It's been wonderful watching the transition of this event series from primarily a traditional anime (only) music event into one that explores the broader spectrum of anime music, combined with a passion and purpose. I'm happy this exists.

Going into crafting, I knew I wanted to take this set as an opportunity to focus a bit more on creating an atmosphere and strong story. I also wanted to do a theme set, and between returning to Japan recently and considering what kind of story I wanted to tell, I took a stab at only using music from Samurai and Ninja anime, with a focus on rap, rock, jazz, and instrumental tracks. The set begins with a more idealized vision of what being a samurai or ninja is, but then shifts to display the more brutal reality of what it entails and the introspection that comes with it, concluding with overcoming those realities and embracing what it means to be a true warrior. 

In terms of sound, there was an emphasis on traditional Japanese instruments and music, in addition to horns and percussive vocals. There were a lot of tracks that I unfortunately didn't get to include, such as ATTACK HAUS  漸-ZEN, but I did get to include some old favorites that I never get to hear, like Akai Usagi. Despite loving a lot of the transitions in this set, favorite transitions were Bowl Man into Heart of Sword and Glorious Days into Gospel of the Throttle. with my favorite mashup being the Kaen x Mists x Mystline x Layback mashup sequence. As expected, I couldn't resist another chance to make another Believe It mashup; I'm starting to think that I have made the most mashups with that song on the planet. Despite having multiple tracks from the same series, they were all at least from different seasons, and in the case of Kenshin, very intentional to portray his character both before and after the darker section. 

No matter what life throws at you, approach it with your strongest Samurai Heart! Until next time!
