In celebration of the genre’s 50th year, we’ve teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. Alongside the Hip Hop series, this companion Breaks series takes our re-cap of Rap History a level deeper, this time reconstructing the classics of the Hip Hop canon from their constituent sample material. Arranged chronologically of course, this tenth volume pieces together popular Hip Hop tunes from the years of 1996 and 1997, utilising only the Funk, Soul & Jazz tracks from which they were originally constructed – over 80 breaks in the mix! Artwork pays homage to Paul Winley’s iconic ‘Super Disco Brakes’ compilation series.

In celebration of the Hip Hop’s 50th year, we’ve teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. I recreated the bridge to Raining Blood by Slayer on my acoustic guitar and slowed it down. Then I threw on some Slob on my knob Inspired trap drums. Enjoy this combo. I had a blast putting it together! Lmk what y'all think and if I should make more.

Definitely one of the illest mixes in the archive - we got the legendary Marley Marl live from our party with him on 3.28.19!

This mix is special because it takes Marley out of the box as not just a hip-hop DJ but an OG NYC staple DJ, playing the sounds that influenced him on his come up. Expect sounds from 1980's New York, classic funk + David Mancuso inspired tracks, and one of Marley's true loves: hard-hitting house music!... all with Marley's trademark turntable skills that make him one of NYC's finest party rockers. 

We hope you enjoy this mix as much as we do, definitely one to blast during peak party time.
