This is my first "music therapy" session! It's a house/techno mix recorded live on Twitch. I'm normally chatting and engaging with my community on the mic during my streams, but I was having a tough mental health week. So I taped off the mic switch, leaned into my happy place, and recorded a a 2-hour set. 

My goal with "music therapy" sessions is to upload the mix regardless of imperfections. There may be some transitions or track selections that could have been better - but it’s live, improvised, and I hope to get way more mixes uploaded for you all this way. It’s helping me fight against my perfectionism, play around with my music library, focus on the fun, and push myself with my skills instead of playing it really safe to ensure a clean mix.

I heard you, TikTok! 😊 Here is the Push Up edit, but with the original breakdown from my viral mistake video. 

If you're wondering why there are two versions of this mashup on my SoundCloud, here's the backstory: 

In the middle of March, I unexpectedly went viral on TikTok for making a mistake during one of my DJ sets, but saving the mix. 😅 (link below) It happened while playing the song "Push Up" by Creeds. I forgot the tempo range was set to "wide" on my controller and went to adjust the speed when a fader nudge dropped the track from around 140 bpm to 5. It created a creepy, trippy vocal effect, and after sharing the moment on TikTok, a lot of people liked it and wanted a full track. I also saw a lot of comments asking for a quicker drop after the spooky vocal. So I did that and mashed it up with a song from my favorite artists who inspired me to be a DJ in the first place, "Freak" from Sofi Tukker.

But after sharing the mashup on TikTok, I saw other comments asking for the original, live, more drawn-out breakdown that scratched the brain just right. This is that version!

I am just now starting production lessons and this is my first attempt at a bootleg/mashup without much experience. I recorded some of the mix on my Pioneer XDJ-XZ-W, and finished it in Ableton Live. Look forward to my edits, remixes, and mashups being even better in the future when I know what I'm doing, but I know so many of you wanted the slowdown on SoundCloud, and I couldn't leave you hanging! It may not be the ideal bootleg I have in my head, but this challenge got me to open my DAW and experiment for the first time in a while, so I really appreciate the push from my new friends over on the clock app. 🫶 

A lot of the hype/fun feedback on my TikTok video was about the journey... watching me mess up and improvise my way back into the mix.
