For Somersault’s 102nd mix we have a very very special guest @w_t_c_h !!!! WTCHCRFT is regular in the New York techno scene playing at some of the best clubs in New York. Most recently WTCHCRFT has played shows along side @moma_ready for his @hausofaltr party at @bossanovacivicclub . Coming off a recent release with @sorry_records with a wild @jadalareign remix and an @i.love.acid vinyl only release that sold out in minutes WTCHCRFT has not only had a huge year as a DJ but as a producer as well. He sent us over a mix with lots of unreleased music that he’s been working on recently and we are so happy to have him on!

And on a personal note, I’d like to add that Anthony is one of the most kind and welcoming people I’ve had the chance of meeting in New York. Anthony was one of the first people I met in the city and he’s become a genuinely close friend of mine and has introduced me to people that I can also call close friends. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Anthony I know you can agree with me in saying that he is a true light in this scene and he deserves everything that he’s managed to accomplish this year and the years to come!

Somersault Mix 102 (WTCHCRFT) “Anthony’s Mix”

After a short break on APECAST, we bring you a recorded set from AVA Festival, courtesy of our good friend Carlton Doom. Grab a bottle of Bucky, fuel up and feel that festival energy. 

Over the years the names Carlton Doom and AVA have become synonymous within the Irish underground scene. After an extended lockdown the festival made its highly anticipated return last weekend, with a predominately homegrown Irish lineup. 

Carlton has been bouncing around the club scene for over 10 years with an armoury of residency under his belt, by 2021 he has become a favourite across Northern Ireland and beyond. We first noticed him on the back of those intergalactic electro and house releases on Deep Sea Frequency / Hypercolour, which went on to rumble sound-systems across the UK. Within the last few years, we’ve seen him push out some playful garage edits on a label that cannot be named and a couple of self-released club anthems. 

Lock-in and get amongst the crowd, Carlton Doom is turning the levels up.

DRBM02 - Truly Madly

Poland-born, Cologne-based Robert Babicz has been refining his dangerously effective, no-frills strain of techno since the '90s, with outings on Kompakt, Treibstoff and Bedrock to show for it. 

His new album, 'The Owl and the Butterfly' on Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings, however, is inspired by communing with nature in Cologne’s Königsforest, and is largely an exercise in plumbing the basest components of new age: water sounds, birdsong, flute... all employed as proxies for feeling, man. 

Other artists have blended the pastoral and the synthetic — think Pantha du Prince romping in the Alps or Robag Wruhme’s Spreewald-inspired 'Thora Vukk', and here the concept is seen to work once again. 

The pulsating acid of ‘A Girl From Jupiter’ is layered with canned panpipes, the oceanic, roiling ‘Red Lips (Rob Neo Dub)’ thoroughly depressurised by a segue into one of the many ‘dream sequences’. Yup, ‘dream sequence’. That, friends, says it all.
