Big Bass Party - Episode 25 - 31/03/14 [Break To The Future Special]

Mark Farina Recorded Live at Funky Tekno Tribes Paleolithic Tour at The Grand Olympic Auditorium in Downtown LA on November 11th 1995. The evening started with DJ Omar and Graeme as they turned it over to Donald Glaude for some funky breaks. Barry Weaver then hit the decks with a sick and dark @ss set! Dj Dan then got on the decks and put the funk back into the crowd as he handed it over to John Williams for some techno mastery... This is the closing set for the evening/morning as the fog came rolling in and Mark Farina put his records on the tables... A short but brilliant house set that is unforgettable! All vinyl on two turntables and a mixer... This was a legendary night and we can never thank the boys from TBC enough for the honor of recording such a great night of music... 

Our memories of the LA underground will live on as Digital History! Enjoy!!

Mark Farina At Funky Tekno Tribe In Los Angeles On November 11th 1995

The latest MOTW comes from Plump DJs and they've put together a cracking selection of twenty five tracks in a frenetic hour long mix. 

With recent remix releases for the likes of Mark Ronson, Deadmau5 and Fenech Soler, the Plump DJs continue to be the avid pioneers of diverse electronic music they were when they first cut their teeth in the late 1990s. Heading up the new Grand Hotel imprint, their bass strong, drum heavy collaborations with the scene’s most promising protégés have seen airplay from the likes of Carl Cox, Crookers, Zinc and Annie Nightingale. Bringing everything from bassline, wonky and hard edged house to uncompromising electro smashers to your ears and dancing feet, the Plumps are set to play at Soundcontrol in Manchester this Saturday and XOYO in London next Saturday.

The Plumps were a surprise, unannounced addition to the line-up this year and to the delight of an unsuspecting crowd, they lit up the Funktion One stage as the sun was setting on yet another epic B.O.C. Plumps DJs are internationally renown UK DJ/Producer duo Andy Gardner and Lee Rous, whose passion for innovation and non-conformist attitude to electronic music has fuelled their fire for over a decade. Their unmistakeable signature sound has earned them recent remix commissions from the likes of Deadmau5, Mark Ronson, Moby and Orbital while their four deck live show has lead to countless international tours and shows at London's lead music venues XOYO, Fabric and the Nest.  Self admitted suckers for bass and 'the groove' Gardner&Rous fuse Electro-House, Rave, Acid, Breakbeat and Techno into their own unique style they call 'Plump Music'. Dirty Weekend has gathered support and plays from the likes of BBC Radio 1 DJ's Annie Mac, Mista Jam and Annie Nightingale, galvanizing an already established list of Plump enthusiasts which includes A. Track, Zinc Porter Robinson, Laidback luke, Armand Van Helden, Norman Cook and Carl Cox.

Plump DJs RIPEcast - Live from Breakfast of Champions 2013

Continuing our features exploring talent around the country, this week we're pleased to welcome a special guest mix from Chicago-based Duke Shin, resident DJ at WYA (Where Ya At?) CHI, Housepit Chicago and Vocalo Radio. Here's what Duke had to say about the mix:

"My first encounter with Space Cowboys was on the playa in 2003. The theme that year was Beyond Belief, which is how I felt stumbling upon the mighty UNIMOG, deep playa, parked next to the Temple of Gravity--a 90 ton interactive sculpture featuring 5 gigantic stone slabs, mostly covered with happy climbing burners during the day. But this was latelate night, with a fire-pit underneath creating a warm shelter underneath the monolithic slabs, and a horde of dancers surrounding the UNIMOG and installation. I headed home for supplies and friends, and the sun was starting to rise as we pedaled back out. We found the UNIMOG by first hearing it, then zeroing-in on the cloud of dust from the dancers in that perfect Hi-RES-but-still-cool-on-the-playa magic hour of morning... you know it, yeah? Anyways, about this mix... new cuts and classic faves, from electro, techno, acid and house, perhaps a touch of breaks cuz RIPE. Thanks for listening!
