Barcelona producer Coyu, aka Ivan Ramos Salinas, is one of Spain’s most in-demand exports. 

Celebrated as a skilled DJ and producer, whose remix touch has been trusted on classics by the likes of Fatboy Slim and X-Press II, in recent years he’s also made a mark with his Suara label. Boasting a roster that includes fellow Spaniard Edu Imbernon alongside Technasia, Tube & Berger, Affkt, Jay Lumen, Gary Beck and Carlo Lio, it’s rolling, techy sound has helped define modern house and techno.

Out this week is Coyu’s remix of ‘Clunk’ by Ramiro Lopez, another Suara label mate, this time releasing on Waveform. And the duo have extended their studio respect even further, with a joint ‘That’s Not Happening’ EP (which we’re assured is happening) out on Bedrock on the 12th of May.

Even more exciting though is the news that Coyu has been teaming up with Moby for an as yet undisclosed project. Quite what they’re cooking up remains to be seen, but whatever it is we’ve sure it will be flavoured by Coyu’s Catalan passion…

PREMIERE: Goldie B - One Glass And Beyond [Simple Emotion Records]

Manchester-based producer Viclan tees up his debut release for R&S Records, offering up a brace of mechanical and Detroit-inspired techno cuts. 

Viclan is a new project from Calvin Whittaker, previously releasing under the aliases Siege and CWS. On this debut outing, two highly functional techno cuts are served up on the ‘Self Manifest’ single. With a heavy nod to the sounds of the Motor City, and to the original electro sounds, Viclan carves out a couple of hypnotizing four-to-the-floor tracks, each one etched with industrial funk and rattling breakbeat energy.

Fresh new label Holybro is the creation of Dutch DJ & producer Ray Monsieur. Hailing from the European dance capital of Amsterdam, his thoughtful and melodic compositions are infused with depth, warmth, and emotions. On his debut release ‘Stronger’, the hypnotic arrangements each tell a musical story. Created in the attic of his parents’ house, when circumstances forced him to return home for a spell, on a Roland TR8S drum machine and a SH101, the soft synth sounds have been lovingly created by Ray, with mixing and mastering courtesy of Nachtbraker (Quartet Series, Red Light Radio and Doka Amsterdam).
 
The majestic opener ‘Forget’ will lift arms, minds, and spirits when it drops, a heads down stomper for the ALFOS faithful no doubt.  ‘My Love’ uses only the feel-good notes in its joyous blend of colourful synth melodies, undulating electronic strings, and soft synth touches. The dreamy yet dynamic techno of title cut ‘stronger’ is bright and reflective. It’s melody is both filtered and drawn out, the resultant music is effortlessly pleasing and awash with a wave of melodic sheen. Closing track ‘Sunshine’ is music made with machines for machines. Trance-inducing hypnotic electronica blended with a heady chord sequence that drives this EP all the way home.

Dee Diggs’ ‘Go Deep’ on toucan sounds follows up her production debut on the label released last year. It’s another insightful evolution of her musical world, featuring a dynamic house groove with a warm, thick bassline and lyrics that conjure a devotional mood that transforms into a hopeful feeling.

The soulful vocals in Dee Diggs’ ‘Go Deep’ are breathy, intimate and direct, bright shimmering high hats add extra lightness, and the subtly broken kick pattern keeps things moving as piano chords douse the track with an authentic yet subtle gospel influence. It is a standout cut that bridges worlds, its modern progressive house at a patient bpm of 126, revealing the dexterity of Dee Diggs’ sonic pallet and production style. This track is a nice contrast from her upbeat and sultry yet similarly jazz-laden debut solo single ‘Toss It’ on the New York label last summer.

79.5 - Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way (JKriv Remix)

Studio magician Helsloot was last on this label back in early March and now continues to offer glimpses of his upcoming artist album which arrives in May. This new single again shows him digging deeper than ever to create new music that ignores all fads and trends. It's a bold move from an accomplished producer who has become synonymous with a rich melodic sound on labels like this one, as well as Domino. He has remixed names like Bob Moses and Fritz Kalkbrenner before now and secured hits with over 400 million plays in the form of ‘Because You Move Me’. 

This new cut, 'Beautiful Losers, ' features Rangleklods, a Danish electronic talent whose music simultaneously reflects the past and the future on labels like Universal and Schoenwetter Schallplatten. It is an absorbing and deep-rolling track with majestic synth craft bringing subtle light as the melodies soar to the stars. The smoky vocals are well-treated and tug at the heartstrings as the arpeggiated pads power onwards. 

'Beautiful Losers' is also accompanied by a stunning music video produced by Swedish film company, Lampray.
