Dublin born & based Long Island Sound (Rob Roche & Tim Nolan) have been honing their craft since the DJ/Producer duo’s inception in 2015. Cutting their teeth in Berlin, the pair broke through over 2019 following a release on Bobby Analog’s Body Fusion and their ‘Initial Ascent’ EP on their Signs Of Space imprint. 

Garnering support from Midland and Bicep, they were then invited to contribute to the ‘Feel My Bicep’ mix series. Following the success of their second EP on SOS, ‘Broken Signals’, LIS were invited to contribute to DJ Mag’s Fresh Kicks series and featured on Maribou State’s ‘Fabric Presents’ compilation. 

Picking up serious momentum over 2019, the duo booked a string of gigs and festivals across Europe, the UK and US, including AVA Festival and Griessmuehle, before coming full circle for their first Boiler Room in their hometown in February 2020. With their back catalogue gaining support from industry heavyweights including Anja Schneider, Cinthie, Tijana T, Hammer and Skatebard, LIS dropped ‘First Contact EP’ on Hammer’s Remmah imprint in January 2022, which received a glistening review from Resident Advisor. 

We recently caught up with Rob and Tim as they get ready for the release of their highly anticipated debut album titled “Lost Connection!” We spoke with them about their origisn, growing up in Dublin, the gear they collect, plus much more. Emerald is a name that should be familiar to any Rinse FM devotee—she's been DJing on the UK dance music radio giant since 2014, and has just started a new flagship slot called The Dance Show on Friday nights. The Londoner is a consummate radio DJ, blending together genres and tempos with pitch-perfect mixing and an ear for hooks that makes each track stand out. (She calls herself "genre fluid.")

She's said so much in the lengthy, excellent interview below, so we can keep this part brief. Her RA Podcast combines newer favorites from Lauren Flax, Queer On Acid and Neil Landstrumm with older, recently acquired records from DJ Deeon (1994) and FSOM (1992). DJs, producers and good pals Warren Cummings and Joe Danvers-McCabe formed Kassian in 2019 after clicking at a party in Peckham. The two had been doing their own thing for some time - Warren under the moniker Warren Xclnce and Joe as Danvers - but after finding a musical symbiosis with one another, they decided to join forces and have since received a ton of praise in the short time they've been a duo.

Their first releases explored the realms of house music, on releases for Heist, Phonica Records and Shall Not Fade, but since they've veered into the world of techno and UK bass.

The launch of their label, Faux Poly, was a catalyst for the new direction. Starting as a space for their own releases, they're now welcoming new artists to the label, the first being London-based DJ Jay Carder and her debut EP Entropy, which we premiered a track from recently. When they're not running the label, gigging or readying their own releases,  Joe and Warren run their own East London-based studio, 38east Studios, which offers a fully equipped space for producers to come and make music.

Following a healthy string of gigs across the UK and Europe, including debuts at Panorama Bar, HOR and Radio Radio, and ahead of a jam-packed release schedule next year, Kassian treat us to a mix of bass heavy grooves, melodic techno and hypnotic broken rhythms.
