While writing his new LP, ‘Rare, Forever’, Leon Vynehall was at a crossroads, asking himself what he wanted his music to say. In conversation with Ray Philp, he talks about about finding his place in the landscape of electronic music, and releasing his most ambitious release to date.

A sense of excitement and an appreciation for dance music’s colourful past can be felt in all that Toshiki Ohta does. His entry into the Crack Mix series is no exception. 

Here, Ohta homes in on “breakbeat and 4x4 with an MC (mostly hip-house and ragga) from 1987 to present day, from all over the world.”

“Hopefully the way it has been mixed shows old records in a new context,” says Ohta. “I had a lot of fun putting this together, hope you enjoy the ride.”

Last May, we invited Leon Vynehall to play a rare 'open to close' set at Honey Soundsystem. There are not many selectors that we can trust to not only DEBUT themselves at a HSS party but also take on a room entirely to themselves. His set exceed our expectations and the recording ACTUALLY came out.

Honey fans know we don't release many live-recordings, but when we do they often have a life of their own (see Jennifer Cardini at Burning Man, Silent Servant at Holy Cow, Black Madonna at Deviants, Doc Sleep at the 9 Year Anniversary)

This set has been on repeat since that May 26th night and after some serious cajoling, Vynehall agreed to release the first couple of hours. Vynehall does not really release live mixes so we know how special this is and thank him for letting us go with it.

The set went on for another 3.5 hours but included some material Vynehall can't have out in the world yet. So... here is an exceptionally good 3.5 hours at one of our traditional Sunday night, holiday weekend, Honey Soundsystem parties in San Francisco.
