This totally improvised Live Stems Mix of Gino Soccio's iconic track "Dancer" was performed during a Twitch stream on March 19, 2022 using Traktor DJ Studio and a Native Instruments D2 controller.

It has the sort of hypnotic flow that feels like a perfect fit for getting 'lost in sound' at an after-hours party in a dark room full of sweaty bodies.

In this mix, I tried to blend two genres that share the same disco roots and arguably a lot of musical tropes. In many cases, the borders are blurred and it is hard to pin down whether we're dealing with spaghetti disco or its eclectic cousin from the north - Canadian maple NRG stompers 🍁 
Obviously the majority of tracks feature higher bpms, but don't expect TikTok-style over the top speed. Oddly enough, I noticed that many of the songs in this mix tending towards Hi-NRG are conveying a certain notion of bittersweetness or melancholy, contradicting the cliché of the happy-go-lucky mass produced tracks of this genre from the later 80s. Herein probably lies a compelling connective tissue between Italo and Hi-NRG, but in any case, pizza and poutine go together surprisingly well.

Warren passed away very recently. I am devastated the Dance Music scene has lost such a big icon, so early. His legacy remains, his perfect transitions, his monolithic taste and seamless storytelling in his mixes - just perfect. Disco music and DJ culture lose one of their greatest, yet most humble figureheads.
