This special Mousai Mix has been curated by @morta-mor/tracks and is a female identified creators mixtape. Raised by Berlin’s club and festival culture, Morta has brought elements of inspiration to her homeland Lithuania, where she started her DJ career over a year ago. Her sound is shaped by continuously nomadic lifestyle, which represents an interesting mix of influences: she is a lover of eclecticism that brings together downtempo, organic house with ethnic elements or trippy vocal loops, afro beats, melodic breakbeats and everything that doesn't fit into a frame.

Below is a personal note from Morta Mor, sharing her intentions behind this beautifully curated mix tape.

"After making a track list to my previous mixtape I realized that basically all tracks were produced by men. Which rather makes sense, as "only 7% of the users of Ableton Live are female. The actual number of women producing electronic music appears to be not much higher - only 9% of EDM is made up of women. Even on a local scale, women in electronic music are scarce.”(Study Breaks, 2019) 

There’s a huge gender gap that still needs to be addressed. To me, becoming a DJ was a political act, so I couldn’t do anything else but take upon a challenge to produce a 100% womxn produced mix, which is what you’re going to be listening to today.  

Identifying as female wasn’t the only criteria. I put extra time and effort to make sure I represent all the diverse beauty of womanhood from diverse backgrounds, not only in terms of ethnicity, but in terms of age and the spectrum of LGBTQA+ as well.

I wrote ‘Joy’ as an expression of gratitude to the people I love; my girlfriend, family, and friends. They’ve been by my side through the coldest and darkest moments; through my grief. My last single, ‘Better days’ represented the transition out of winter into spring. ‘Joy’ represents the summer, a time to share happiness with the people I care about the most. They are my Joy.

Ombra International are the mysterious collective that have been exploring the outer reaches of electronic music together since the back end of 2016.

Italian for shadow, Ombra self-describe themselves as "united by lust and fury" and "together alone", delivering an output that's an avant-garde force of unfamiliar comfort.

Since forming, the Berlin collective have put out music by Curses, Mondowski, K-Effect, Cannibal Ink, Perel, Dawn Again and more on a series of various artists releases. They bring together artists from around the world who share roots in post-punk, wave, and other weirdo guitar music, mixing it with Italo, the darker side of disco and electro.

Created by Binda and Sam Berdah in November 2010, this duo from Metz has been consistantly rising through the French electronic scene for the past years or so with dates at the Social Club (Paris), the Melusina (Luxembourg) playing alongside Mein Disco and Yuksek, as well as at the Rafiot (Strasbourg).

They have recently caught the attention of demanding DJs and producers Chloé and Daniel Avery with a collection of slow grinding edits (notably Kraftwerk's The Robots).

Their eclectic sets oscillate between House and Techno and are often sweetened with Soul and Funk. From all time classics to the newest, most contemporary electro tracks, Binda and Sam Berdah stand out with original and sophisticated mixes.  Club Bizarre refers to themselves as "music diffusers", and between two "tours de piste".

Günce Acı is an Istanbul based Dj/Producer who is very much on the rise. With release on Dogs & Vultures, Esthetique & Da Chronic. She has become a mainstay on the underground music scene in Istanbul. Influenced by new wave, electronica and EBM her productions very much reflect her influences.  With hypnotic pads, sturdy basslines interrupted beats and captivating melodies her dark trippy soundscape really hit the spot. She doesn’t believe in genres and is a dedicated lover of irregularities when it comes to music. One of the nicest guys in the scene Luca Venezia aka @CursesForever is known for his unique blends of New Wave and Post-Punk with his ghostly vocals and guitars, punctuated with flashes of 80's EBM and New Beat. Whether it's performing live at the late Andrew Weatherall's Convenanza Festival, DJng in the main room at Circoloco DC-10 or indeed his own productions which often exploring the darker side of 80's Italo-disco, he continues to grow legions of new admirers. 

A few years back he launched his own imprint @OmbraInternational and the label soon established itself as a quality outlet for lovers of this unique brand of synth laden, bass guitar inspired electronica. Recently we collaborated with the label and a selection of the Ombra family to support '30 hours for Beirut' with Ballroom Blitz and Palestinian Radio Alhara to raise money for those most affected by recent event in Beirut. Over the course of the coming week we're delighted to share the sets during this radio event via the Sinchi Channel.

Bio:
It took little to no time for Belgian-born talented DJ and eclectic electronic music producer to stand out through the originality of his creations. An ambitious and determined individual whose skill and artistic direction has also leaned into creating a music agency and label based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Successfully blending melodious and decadent music, every one of David Garcet's tracks plunges its listeners in his very personal, sexy and emotionally charged universe. A modern artist with regular releases, he is a key music producer and DJ in the electronic music scene, whose attention-grabbing music holds great surprises for music enthusiasts worldwide. Over the years he has productively released a number of noteworthy tracks and remixes of tracks by the likes of Haze-M Thodoris Triantafillou, Batsi Grub, Garance, Ron Flatter, Sid le rock, Juan Deminicis, Kolombo and many more. He has had several fruitful mentions on Niconé’s renowned label Dantze, as well as numerous remarkable releases on the prominent Progressive House label Manual Music. Not to mention a significant track record in other music labels including Tulipa recordings, Emerald & Doreen and of course Jane Music Agency, the latter being a fruit from his own labour.

His music experiences and maturity landed him on some of the region’s most illustrious stage. Through these experiences he noticed just how profoundly the music landscape in Asia was developing to welcome less mainstream genres. Inspired by this growth, David Garcet in partnership with Mjane created Jane Music Agency, an establishment that acts as a bridge between the electronic music industry in Europe and Asia. Inevitably becoming a pioneering venture that is helping shape the Asian underground music scene all whilst contributing to the industry in Europe, pushing the boundaries in both markets to explore and unveil fresh talent for global music fans. What started as an artist agency rapidly developed into a music label. The announcement of the label’s official creation was followed shortly after by the gleeful revelations of several EP releases, curated by artists on the label. The first of which “Tokniko” is a track produced by Mjane and David Garcet, due for release on 6th March 2020 with a series of impressive remixes by K.E.E.N.E., Samer Soltan and The Timber Taal. The second EP will follow shortly after, “Another Line” by David Garcet and Marie Lenoir is set to be issued on 15th May 2020, with remixes by Haze-M, Thodoris Triantafillou and Just Her. With so many exciting announcements already being shared, there is no doubt there are more bombshells heading our way in the near future!
