Jex Opolis - Soft Guidance (Insomnia Mix)

The party was in full swing. From the moment the doors opened bodies had flooded in, all making a bee line for the dance floor. The energy never let up, the crowd only swelled, growing in size and spirit as dusk turned to night and into morning. Each and every person was here for the sweet sounds pulsing out of the speakers in the four corners of the room; here to be at one with the space and each other, to free their minds and leave their inhibitions at the door - they were here to dance. 

London imprint Make A Dance have a simple mission - can you guess what it is? Their releases are all about getting your body moving, and they're pretty darn good at it. Alongside original outings they've become known for their M.A.D. Edits series, a vinyl-only string of EPs that calls on the talents of friends and label family to flip their favourite cuts for the floor. For the third instalment they've got Rakim Under, Pascal Moscheni, Lex Wolf and Hard Drive Library on board, who each put their own classic house spin on four spicy cuts.

Klasse Wrecks' first release of 2023 comes storming out of the gate, hot on the tail of Mr. Ho's previous album and his collaborative 'Eu-Li' EP with Mogwaa. 'Angel Number 909' is a collection of three versions of one track, the over-riding element in the EP is an incessant and catchy acidic synthline that bounds across racketing breakbeats and galloping basslines. Alongside the 'US Breaks' version is an old school influenced 'Acid House' version as well as a moodier 'House' mix. Three pedigree tracks that will be sure to go the distance on any dancefloor.

The mysterious Henk Donkers conjures up the 69th release on WOLF Music. No-one knows where the promo came from, a Dropbox link landing in the WOLF HQ inbox labelled, ‘With love, Henk Donkers x’. Crack the vault to find some slick, sultry, steamed up window biz from this mystery entity, ranging from a soulful 2-step burner featuring vocalist, Ell Murphy (we’re still trying to track Ell down to shed some much-needed light on this conundrum), to an acid-tinged melon twister on the A side. On the B, Henk teases further with that red-light basement feeling, blending breakbeats with heartstring hitting sweetness, before closing it out with a spoken word, psychedelic trip.

Head hydro-tripper Black Eyes has risen from the depths of the deep to release his debut solo record 'Hydro-Trip vol. 1'. Fresh off the sea creature’s back from co-producing the ‘Planet People - Terra Firma EP’ with synth-botherer Reedale Rise which came out earlier this year. His solo endeavour takes us on a jazzier vibe yet still keeping true to the deep ways of the water.

  Lead track ‘Understood Sea Being’ plunges us on a rugged ride with deep Detroit chords and Black Eyes’s own punk-like vocals throughout. ‘Let’s Get Deeper’ slows the pace up with chopped up samples and introduces us to the classic hydro-trip sound we’ve grown to love down here in the underwater cities; it’s deep and trippy.  

‘Scuba Lyfe’ picks up the pace a bit but evolves into a low down dubby groove mixed with some hi-tek jazz. Asking Rolando (who we all know was part of the infamous Underground Resistance and Los Hermanos, as well being a Berghain resident DJ more recently) to come on board the subterranean vessel was an obvious choice for remix. He switches the gears and adds some fluid Detroit techno to finish off the EP. Berlin-based Deskai masters the EP, who also mastered the 'Planet People EP', so you know what to sonically expect.  

This EP has been in the making for some years and we are happy to finally share the way of the hydro-trip with all you land dwellers. As per usual with anything hydro-trip related; scuba gear in heavily encouraged when listening this EP. Let’s keep it deep!
