What would summer be without a trip to Calgary to play Versions. This is always a highlight of my summer. This years installment started wth is driving 16 hours strait (on our way to Basscoast) and walking on to the decks.  I played this hour then @djshael played an hour then we had the funnest B2B to close the patio down. Nothing better than playing music with your bestie for amazing humans under the sun and stars! When I first moved to Bucharest in 2023, Caroline Polachek’s Desire, I Want to Turn Into You had just been released. Pretty in Possible instantly became my favorite song on it, with lyrics that merge the mundane with the absurd in a way that deeply resonated with me. I felt the city resonated with it too. It’s quite random and has nothing to do with the actual music heard on these streets, but now that I live here, this is still how Bucharest often feels to me: like muffled drums, abrasive and soothing at the same time. Because of that one song, I started listening to a lot of trip-hop from the 1990s–00s. I began collecting songs (in a playlist called woosh woosh) - starting with stuff like Massive Attack, Everything But The Girl, Portishead, Saint Etienne, and Madonna’s Ray of Light. Over the past two years though, this has branched out in all sorts of new directions. Here’s how it sounds now."

This destination EP fuses Pandhora’s psychedelic rock and organica inspirations with rich berber sounds. The tracks were birthed from impromptu jam sessions in the Siwa Oasis, and retrace the steps of two guests in Egypt and the musical souls met along the way. 

Menna Hussein's vocals open up the expedition on Fatnis Island, nestled between sweet Ney flute frenzies.
Infinite Sahara Skies sweeps across dunes to the tune of Nomad Saleh’s dancing dulcimer, riding organic percussions that carry it all the way from the Island. 
Wrapping up the journey, Siwa swells from the ground up as we are smoldering through ruins of the Shali fortress, electric guitar in hand.

These grounds are one of the most isolated settlements in Egypt. In ancient times, they belonged to the revered Oracle of Amun, “the hidden one”. Today, we are delighted to encounter some of Siwa’s energy through the sounds brought back to us.
