Long time collaborators Complete Walkthru and Physical Therapy join together for their first EP on Allergy Season, Popcorn. Salvaged from sessions begun in 2015, the pair present two lush end emotive house tracks, backed by a minimized dub from Jump Source.

Lead track “Popcorn” opens as a tight italo-house tune before erupting into a a wall of shoegaze synths. Heavily road tested, it's a surefire “big moment” on the dancefloor. B-side “Origin” is propulsive and pretty, layering piano and strings over an acid bassline.

Jump Souce, the all-star Montreal duo of Patrick Holland and Priori, hand in a tripped-out tech-house interpretation of ‘Popcorn.’ The meandering psychedelic jam teases elements of the original between tense staccato synths.

DJ SNEAK on Toy Tonics! Yes. It’s happening. 
Another US legend joins the German house label. After Kai Alcé (EP on Toy Tonics in September 2023) and Joe Claussell who did an amazing remix for the label some time ago, now it’s DJ Sneak. 
It makes sense, as Toy Tonics stands for that funky mix of three main influences: original American soul-based house music, the italo disco heritage and the more London or Paris 1990ies wildstyle house sound. DJ Sneak reached out to the label last year, giving his props and showing love for many of Toy Tonics releases, and the guys immediately invited him to join the label with an EP as it's also his sound that is getting so popular again with the younger dance generation. So here it is: 6 tracks (4 on the vinyl) that remind the classic, bumping DJ Sneak sound. Full of energy and emotion. Perfect for the dance floors of today and great to introduce the maestro to the kids who love house now but have never heard about the grandmasters.

Manchester based imprint Dansu Discs might not be fucking about with the rate of releases they’re putting out, however it’s fair to say that quality isn’t being compromised. 

On sole duty for four track ‘Come Into My Life' E.P is Keita Sano, a prominent figure in the rising wave of new Japanese producers. 

Having held down releases on world renowned labels such as Mister Saturday Night, 1080p and Lower Parts, it’s fair to say Keita’s a strong addition to the Dansu family, and the perfect producer to head up their debut 12”. 

We feature ‘Afrika’ from the EP. Now we think it’s relatively fair to claim that anyone who chooses to sample Tato’s 'Africa’ is a bit of a cheeky cunt, however claiming Keita delivers on this occasion would be an understatement.

Emotional Rescue returns with the third (and final?) King Sporty & The Ex Tras releases with the first ever-official reissue of the highly sought after cult boogie jam Do You Wanna Dance?   Coming as remastered vocal and instrumental, plus again featuring a special Discomix, this time courtesy of acid-disco slayer Felix Dickinson.  

Appearing shortly after the success of the band’s only album, Extra Funky, Do You Wanna Dance? pointed the way forward, moving further from Disco and closer to the rising electro-boogie sounds that were sweeping the dance floors.   

The confident up / jump electro drum programming, slap bass and trademark Sporty guitar chops are propelled by a monster swamp inducing synth arpeggio that sings the funk electric, while hip-hop-shout-outs ride the rhythm.   If the vocals are too much for some, then the original Instrumental (dub) is also included for those just wanting that infectious groove.

As many will recall, Do You Wanna Dance? featured on Felix’s “Originals” compilation for Claremont 56 back in 2011, so when the King Sporty reissue project was coming together there was only one name to be asked for the Discomix.   With a long history of DJing and music production, as well the man behind the Recycled Records, Fools Gold, Urban Myth and Bastedos labels, as well many, many releases on the long running and aptly titled Cynic Recordings, his remix arrives on point.

Teasingly drawn out, his mix switches back / forth between versions, the interplay between vocals, guitar, bass and electro-glide synths hypnotically building, with Dickinson’s deftly dubbing tripping it out, making the title’s question irrelevant, as mind and feet involuntarily move.

Curated by Seb Wildblood - all my thoughts - volume one, is a sonic snapshot of where the imprint is currently at and the direction it's heading in, featuring several key label artists and welcoming a bunch of new artists to the label including the likes of Project Runaway, Jenifa Mayanja, Closet Yi, Ouri, Aguila & more..........

First up is Gothenburg based Ebende with downtempo excursion ‘Road Trip’, before emerging Seoul producer Closet Yi’s ambient cut ‘Bird Emporium’. New all my thoughts signee Mauv is up next with a new track entitled ‘Middle Man’, featuring Mauv’s distinctive vocals alongside an electronica-tinged, post-punk riff. Olsen ups the tempo with the upbeat, breaksy ‘Radient Omen’, before an infectious percussive number from Israel duo Project Runaway entitled ‘Export City’. Bumako Recordings head honcho Jenifa Mayanja steps up next with ‘Inbetween’, showcasing her distinctive sound which has earned her the title of ‘the First Lady of deep house’ setting the tone for Parisian producer Aleqs Notal’s smooth cut ‘Numa’.

Stepping up after is all my thoughts mainstay Tom VR, with his trademark style on full display in ’The Gradual Change’, before Montreal based artist Ouri’s ‘Gay Sound’ brings forward a sound drawing inspiration from the post-dubstep era. Aguila’s euphoric house cut ‘For Small Rooms’ creates a warm nostalgia reminiscent of the dance floor, before San Francisco based CM-4’s jungle influenced ‘Heil Coil’ drives the tempo up further. label alumni U-I is up next with spacey, atmospheric cut ‘WTF’, before Valya Kan’s ‘Ice Birds’ mellows the tone with soothing melodies and comforting notes. The penultimate track ‘Last Summer Sunday Ambience’ from German duo Rossum Universal Tracks is an ethereal, astronomic cut - an ambient soundscape that takes the listener orbiting through space. Closing the compilation is label head Seb Wildblood & Queens’ artist Deem Spencer’s first collaboration together, a track combining Seb Wildblood’s dreamy production alongside Deem Spencer’s melancholic lyrics and distinguishing style entitled ‘Take Your Time’.

Mark Hawkins love for US and UK house music dating back twenty years is as clear as day on his ‘Don’t Give Up' EP.  He draws on his vast experience to bring those two styles from opposite sides of the pond together with his own contemporary flourishes. Deep, Soulful, Garage and Classic this EP has it all!

Bristol / Manchester young guns Tom Jarmey & Joe Litherland have been quietly making their mark on the UK electronic landscape over the last 12 months and beyond, with Jarmey’s releases on the likes of Lobster Theremin, Banoffee Pies and Vivid, and more recently, Litherland on h21c and Mood of the Era, all cutting through, despite everything. 

With those releases taking in everything from Coco Bryce style neo-DnB, to expansive breaks and warm, deep house, this joint Stasis EP looks towards more introspective, electro flavoured territory. At the risk of trying to read too much into things, it's hard to escape the feeling that 12 months of drift and dislocation has left reflective, unshowily emotional traces across the crisp, melodic pieces. 

The joint EP involves separate tracks from both artists, and a welcome remix contribution from fellow traveller, and rising London / Portsmouth bod 1-800 Girls; but it also works as a single, end to end listen. Which in times of closed dancefloors and enforced home listening, is probably no bad thing.
