Continuing on from his Odyssey EP released in 2013, Ryan Lee West aka Rival Consoles creates atmosphere and space whilst exploring waves of sound and rhythm, and the power of colour. With Sonne Ryan creates music to structure itself around a pulse, rather than the pulse being the defining point. 

The title track begins with “a very subtle set of melodies that repeat almost without confidence, and then gradually give way to a huge collage of colour and power”, as Ryan describes it. Not relying on a conventional beat, it’s a prime example of how an analogue synthesiser can create the power and momentum of a rhythm section. From the distorted waves in 3 Chords, growing and shrinking, to the rhythmic waves of constant speeding up and then slowing down in Recovery, it’s the Moog Voyager, Prophet and tape delay that make up the core sound of the EP. Whilst tracks like Helios, Haunt and Think Tank see West play live drums and acoustic guitar.

“I’m often looking at art in exhibitions and I always think to myself ‘why the hell don’t I have this much colour in my work?’ The answer in part I think is down to synthesis. It is very difficult to create colour without it sounding plastic. Colour in music is both the note combinations and the actual timbre of the sounds. There are lots of instances of very colourful ambient sounds, which I took great care to create for each song, using various methods – from passing analogue synths through chains of effects to chopping up random sequences of recordings and forming tiny collages." – Ryan Lee West

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Some might be surprised that London based electronic producer Ryan Lee West, the man behind Rival Consoles, shares a home with contemporary classical composers such as Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds and Peter Broderick. And yet they have a lot more in common than expected. Fascinated by sound from an early age, Ryan chose to dedicate his time to studying, experimenting with and producing sound graduating from De Montfort University in Leicester. One consistent element in his musical journey has been his desire to create a more organic, humanised sound. Ryan often drafts early ideas on piano, violin and guitar, although the end result is much more electronic-laden. As an accomplished sound designer he has repeatedly performed at the Tate, and recently created a bespoke audio-visual performance for Boiler Room at the V&A. Ryan is currently composing music for a soon to be announced BBC production.

After supporting Luke Abbott on his recent UK tour and I Break Horses on their North American tour in spring, Ryan will debut his new live set with a special release show in London, followed by a string of West Coast U.S. dates culminating in Decibel Festival in late September – more details to be announced soon.

It has been busy months for Chi Thanh and after he remixed Booka Shade and Deux
Tigres on Mood Music and also after releasing a few Beatport smashes, Chi Thanh returns with his next solo EP: RAIN.

The first song “Let It Rain“ takes us on a melancholic and mysterious journey where
clubbers are encouraged to “let go of the past and let the rain wash away the pain“.
After a deep intro and the anthemic breakdown the song erupts in a techno-synth
frenzy while still maintaining a dark and rainy feel.

The second track “No One Else“ is a groovy percussive tech-house song which also
takes a turn in the breakdown, where deep vocals meet an acid-synth and melt
together in a techy final showdown.

The final track of the EP is a collaboration of Chi Thanh with his good friend and
labelmate Florian Kruse of Kruse & Nuernberg fame.

Together they stir up a “tech-funk“ track which lets the listeners hang on a crazy weird synth-line for a few minutes until the song erupts in a funky bass-heavy tech groove that takes no prisoners!

This RAIN EP is a worthy follow-up to his successful last EP STONE and takes things to the next level for all parties involved.

CHI THANH - Let It Rain (original mix)

Fire burns even in cosmic space, and La Zic's 6th digital instalment is a testament to this. West Coast vibes all the way from LA with upcoming DJ/producer Justin Vilhauer (Deeperfect, Cyclic), who joins the label entourage with the titled 'Twin Flame' EP. This one sees the LA-based talent teaming up with fellow Californian artist Will Collins for the lead track, a rampant, gritty tune that fuses techy rhythmic patterns with that late-nate energy while keeping things deep and melodic for his two solo works 'Trust On The Line' and 'Good Love' filled with spacey synths, and silk-bodied vocals. On the remix duties, Argentinian newcomer Obeid (Tamango Records) jumps on board, adding new fuel to 'Twin Flame' - making the track a pure club rocker with twisted vocals and nasty riddims.

Pirupa has something of a knack for crafting tech house dancefloor killers. The Italian producer has an impressive track record with three Beatport chart-topping releases (2009’s ‘Sweet Devil’, 2010’s ‘Get Funky’ and 2012’s ‘Party Non-Stop’) to his name.

His latest single — another sure-fire contender for Beatport domination — that we’re premiering today, sees him rework a classic. ‘Spin Me Round’, which samples the vocals of Dead Or Alive’s '84 classic, has already received the backing of Marco Carola who’s been keeping a dub to himself up until now.

Pirupa’s take sees him beef up the track’s bassline and tease legendary chorus before letting loose for a powerful sing-a-long moment.

‘Spin Me Round’ is out 12th October.

Mirko Di Florio lands on Hot Creations sister label Emerald City this April with Electric Brain, alongside two dynamic remixes from label boss Jamie Jones. Emerald City focuses on more crossover releases and this scintillating record will no doubt find its way into many clubs and radio stations this summer.

“I made this track straight after a night on the terrace at Paradise, Jamie played so much good music I was brimming with inspiration to create something to be played at these parties. That night was so crazy and made such an impression on me that I named the tune Electric Brain.” Mirko Di Florio

On Electric Brain a shuffling rhythm, weighty bassline and classic rave synths combine to create a force for the dancefloor, transporting the mind to hedonistic days at DC-10. The first of Jamie Jones’ ‘Brain’ remixes sees him add his trademark head-nodding groove. With lighter piano melody and distortions to the 303 this one is more subtle, but equally as infectious. Jamie’s final rework focuses around simple looping bass, whilst hi-hats, stabs and wonky electronics create a driving energy to lose yourself to.

Initially making his name as a resident of the Do Not Sleep Ibiza party and collaborating with Lee Foss on Repopulate Mars, Mirko Di Florio has become a staple name of the international house scene. Impressive releases such as his Mesmerized EP on Green Velvet’s Relief label, Long Time on Armada and an edit of Kanye West hit many DJ charts and were played by the likes of Fisher, Diplo, Marco Carola and Jamie Jones. Touring across the world and amassing many fans in the process, in 2020 he also joined MK’s Area 10 team.
