@RAARRAAR is thrilled to present the latest full length LP from label co-founder, @maelstrom. Named ‘Rhizome’, after the research theory which allows for multiple, non-hierarchical entry and exit points in data representation and interpretation1. This album is based on the concept of interdependence, even as the work of a solo artist.

In his own words: “As I was working on the album, I realized that, even as a solo artist isolated in my own studio (most of the album was recorded during lockdown), I was relying on a network of sound designers, software engineers, internet geeks who create patches for synthesizers and sound designers who release free sound banks, to create my music. My music doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but relies on a continuum of other creations, and on a network of other artists, designers, technology and sound design enthusiasts, or software developers without whom my creative output would be entirely different.”

The album's creative process might also be understood as an opportunity to start a conversation about the very structure of our culture/industry : the only way for our communities to survive is to start working on resilient and interdependent ecosystems.

There were strange markings, sketches and drawings etched into the old brickwork. The scribbles told the story behind the people who had lived here long ago, before the rest of civilisation found out. This was once a great palace, a mysterious temple in which bliss could be found in strange spells, potions, poisons and delights. Now it was simply another place to visit with a callous gaze. What had once been a utopian vision of life, now reduced to a mere tourist hotspot and an empty faceless visitation hall. 

Terror Peaks is set to release a new EP on MOTR, a sub imprint of Slow Dance, a record label from London with which we follow with close attention. The imprint itself sits somewhere between the post punk and experimental fringes of music culture but occasionally dabbles in electronic escapades. This new EP from Terror Peaks is one such outing and sets a marker for things to come.

Bristol based collective @Banoffee-Pies celebrates their 5th release on Limited Series imprint.

@MarennSukie aka Chris Roth serves up a drum theme, aptly named ‘The Theme’. Inspired by sample based albums like Bonobo’s ‘Dial m for Monkey’ and Calibre’s ‘Second Sun’, Roth employs a sample based approach to music making. In this instance chopping and mixing some dusty jazz-funk samples, layered behind a pulsating chord pattern and covered in chambers of delay and echo. Stepping up to the plate and taking a big old slice, Roth effortlessly slides in amongst a stellar cast which includes Seb Wildwood and Jon Sable. An explorative and interesting EP from Banoffee Pies, one which captures the imagination and soundtracks sultry summer days.

The home of the beaming banana, Banoffee Pies Records are setting the table for dessert once more. Welcome to the seventh instalment of their compilation series - Limited. Championing their social network, label owners Ell and Sandy have once again rallied a troop of producers they'd gladly sit down for a schooner with, whipping up six refined slices. Hailing from Bristol, this is Gallegos first pass on the big stage. This one's a pulsating record with saxophone and bass getting along as best as they ever have! In this case, Wang Dang refers to one's derriere, as Gallegos encourages us all to quit marinating and get up and get our butts moving! Gallegos has one mission in mind, setting the mood.
