The Sound Of: Deep Jungle, mixed by Harmony

Amazingly it's been 8 years since vol 4! Since then not only have I filled in a few more gaps in my Dillinja collection, a bunch of his golden unreleased tracks from the 90s have since been released on Deep Jungle, Dom & Roland Productions and V Recordings.

So it felt like the right time for another installment - the longest yet at 2 hours (there was a lot to cram in!).

The sheer volume of work he put out in the 90s is staggering - there's still a few records I'm yet to collect and I've been at it for years. And imagine you're that good that your unreleased stuff from the 25 years ago still sounds as good, if not better than anything produced today? Legend.

1 More Mix 094 - Law

I originally recorded this mix in 2003(!) inspired by the tunes being played at the legendary Metalheadz nights at the Blue Note in London in the mid to late 90s. 

I was lucky enough to go down there a few times in my younger days and it was this sound that I was really into at the time. I always loved how DJs there would play a mix of melodic jungle and harder sounds and still get great reactions from crowds.

For this mix I tried to choose some big dancefloor favourites as well as a few lesser known gems. You'll definitely find a few more anthems towards the end as things start to get a bit harder! 

I hope you enjoy the selection. It was a really popular mix online at the time and I've had lots of lovely comments over the years from people who say they really liked it. 

As always with the old skool mixes, this was vinyl all the way. I think I'd picked up a copy of One Nation relatively recently after a long search for it!

Let's meet our dj for episode 570, Abstract Drumz:

As some of you may already know, I have retired from releasing music through other labels and walked away from social media. From now on I’m going to be only releasing music through either Over/Shadow or my own Bandcamp page. This allows me much more creative freedom and takes away any pressure when it comes to making music. Often I go through stages where, due to health issues, I just can’t make music at all for long periods of time and when you’ve got people in your inbox asking for tunes it can get quite overwhelming and the whole process of making music can start to feel like a chore. Making music has always been a hobby and I want it to stay that way. As for upcoming releases, I have a track called “Loss” coming out on a Subtle Audio compilation in the next few months. The tracks “Culture 2024” and “Ethereal (remix)” will be dropping on Over/Shadow in the near future and the two Amen tracks “The Darkness Inside” and “Death Will Come From The Skies” will go up on my Bandcamp page at around the same time as this mix drops. I’m also continuing to work on my “160” series, bringing more oldskool vibes and experimental flavours plus, I’ll be putting out more Dub stuff and generally just making stuff and putting it out there. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the mix, huge thanks to Brian for letting me do this, I had a great time putting it together.
