Named for Jazz great, Ahmad Jamal, A. Jamal was born in Chicago, IL. A. Jamal was introduced to music at an early age by his older sister Iris. It was while listening to a Michael Jackson record that his sister realized that he had a great singing voice. Once his sister told him he could become a professional singer, A. Jamal decided to perfect his craft by devoting many hours to practicing. This hard work and dedication he displayed caught the attention of his uncle Nathaniel Meadows. At the time, Nathaniel Meadows was a prominent music producer in the city of Chicago. By working with his uncle, allowed A. Jamal to be around many mainstream artists such as: The Staple Singers, Syl Johnson, and The Chi-lites. While continuing to work on his vocal skills, A. Jamal became interested in learning the ins and outs of the music business. With his best friend Shafeeq Muhammad, they formed Super Seven Music Publishing in 1984 which established him as a writer/producer. In this venture, they wrote, produced, and published songs such as “Rock Your Body”, “What You Do To Me”, and “Playing With Fire”. Also during that same year, his father Eugene Qahhaar and Uncle Nathaniel started BBC America Records. BBC America Records discovered Smoke City Band that featured Devion Overton and Bea Star as lead singers. Shortly after, the company went on to land a deal with CBS/Epic. A. Jamal sung backing vocals on various label projects and co-managed BBC artists with his older brother Ben Franklin. Also he helped develop career plans for artists with A\R executive Emmitt Garner.  Since, the BBC America years, A Jamal has helped to form two other music companies Power nine Records in 1989 with his cousin Burnette Smith and most recently, Blakemore Music Group. Throughout the evolution of music, A. Jamal has remained true to the foundational principles, quality, and standards of R & B Soul music. His signature sound will always remind us that music is our journey through life. A. Jamal also believes that music is our true expression of feelings and the love we share.
