Ektoplast presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 309

The extremely talented French downbeat producer Ektoplast has been with us since his beginnings, or rather since his first releases saw the light of day. Back then at Talpa Rec., he immediately captivated listeners with his deep, room-filling sound. Add to that the velvety soft but emphatic beat. We could therefore easily imagine a special Afterhour Sounds mixtape. It was really easy to get Clément excited about the idea. But contrary to our expectations, he was determined to record a special micro house-style mixtape for us. Reduced to the essentials, but rich in detail and full of hypnotic moments. Hmm, that sounds good, we thought as a team. And now it's seeing the light of day. Thank you, Clément, for daring to try something new. If it's after-hours, then this is definitely the place to be.

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?
Growing up with music-loving parents and four older brothers who are musicians, I was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles from an early age. I dreamed of becoming a professional drummer, and I even imagined starting a stoner/jazz band with two drummers, so I spent my entire childhood studying the instrument, along with music theory, analysis, and other musical subjects.
Later, I discovered electronic music on my own, outside of this family environment, and immediately immersed myself in it, captivated by the infinite possibilities of timbres and textures. This passion eventually led me to dedicate myself to it and to study composition at the conservatory for many years, which profoundly shaped my ear.
Now, when it comes to my daily listening, and if I had to choose just two genres, they would be folk and ambient — two very different worlds that both touch me on a deep level.

✔️ What makes a good “afterhour”?

A moment suspended in time, wrapped in a serene atmosphere, also well surrounded, and, of course, carried by music that keeps everything euphoric : a smooth & gentle in-between. Oh, and if possible, a nice sunrise


✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

First podcast above 120 bpm I’ve done in years — and I had so many tracks I wanted to play! I would’ve needed at least 3 or 4 hours, maybe soon… but here it is: 60 minutes of deep, dubby, micro-groovy house, or call it whatever you want. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
