"This mix was based on the idea of soundtracking a psychedelic trip. It's somewhat removed from the tracks I've been creating lately - UKG and breaks informed bass music - and gave me a chance to compile tracks that I don't usually get to play out. The tracks I have​ been making lately though should see the light of day soon - or already have, if you've been paying close attention. Some of the demos have already been played on NTS and BBC6, as well as shared by some of my favorite contemporaries like An Avrin (@4navr1n), Huey Mnemonic (@hueypmnemonic), and Farsight (@djfarsight)."

This mix stands on its own as far as head-space altering powers go. Dive down and breathe deep!

It's been hard to believe how fast the end of the year has gone. I just want to take this opportunity to take stock in all the amazing and talented people who have been around to give me hugs and vibes and dance next to me, for me, around me and with me. I made this mix for everyone that I've ever hugged at Bossa, every stranger that has come up to me and told me they liked the music I played after a set. Every person I've ever gone on a tinder date with. Everyone that's ever been to Sustain Release. Everyone I got the chance to meet in Berlin. Everyone I've ever shared a dance floor with and everyone in Brooklyn that makes up this beautiful scene we have the privilege to call home.

Thank you to everyone who has made this year as exciting as it's been. This mix is a toast to the strides we've all made as a dancing music family and to how much fun it is to build something together that we'll never let them take away from us.

DJ MassTransit (aka. Chris Nergaard) grew-up on the Northside of Chicago and has been a fixture on the Chicago night life scene since the late 1990’s. With two CPS Music Teachers as parents his musically-focused family helped expose him to many styles of music in a very diverse environment.

During his formative years MassT studied Sociology and Afro-American Studies (with a Senior Thesis on African-American music) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which eventually led him to obtaining a Masters degree in Social Work at UIC. It was through these experiences that DJ MassTransit developed a deep understanding of music’s power mobilizing social change and bringing people together by creating energy on the dance floor. His craftiness, unbridled passion and sharp eye for detail evolved into a unique flexibility mixing with emotion and connecting with diverse audiences worldwide.

MassTransit DJ’s a wide variety of music in all of its forms—from Motown and classic 70’s soul and funk to deep disco, boogie, house, old school hip-hop and beyond. As co-founder of RefriedBeats, a 5 1/2-year Saturday night residency at Ten56 w/ live freestyle sessions from some of Chicago best party MC’s, MassTransit has long established his voice in the local music scene. MassTransit has also held long-time DJ residencies throughout Chicago including Fox Bar in Soho House Chicago, Ace Bounce, The Darkroom, Subterranean, Cole’s Bar, Tonic Room, Lava Lounge, Bungalow Lounge, InnJoy, Jerry’s Music Room, The Morseland, and Murasaki Sake Lounge and has had the opportunity to deejay hundreds of weddings and special events all over the world.
