The Devil's Discotheque: Tuesday, March 29, 2016

"22, Part. I" is a response to Jhené Aiko's 2017 album "Trip" which discusses the loss of Jhené's brother, the men she's dated and the drugs she's done in attempt to reconnect with him, and her journey to rediscovering herself. This podcast discusses the death of my father, the drugs I've used trying to find him in the universe, and the legitimization of plant-based drugs – namely cannabis, psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, peyote, and ayahuasca – that have historically been used in cultural-religious traditions to overcome difficulty, bring knowledge to one's community, and to connect with God/the universe. 

This production is my final project for my anthropology senior seminar, taught by Professor Colleen Cohen at Vassar College, as well as a chapter from my forthcoming book on my experience navigating Vassar and Morehouse Colleges as a black non-binary person.
