Beatreker, real name Li Yang, is a producer on the rise based in Shangai and Melbourne, merging future rave with melancholic, feel-good vibes that straddles genres leaning into big-room and trance sensibilities, he now returns to Generation Smash after the smash ‘Guerra’, this time with the impressive ‘Soma’!

Entering into the fold with guitar instrumentation that stirs and rouses, deeper fluctuations of synapse-snapping synths and progressive tones envelope the listener into what is next to come; hyper-fixating melodies and weight, bolshy beats that lean into big-room, main stage energy. With audio announcement-style vocals that come in in a spoken-word fashion, barley distinguishable through the haze and distortion, it’s a classy element that is executed well with its experimentation, before the high-intensity kicks back into overdrive.

Be Like Anyone is an EP that tells a beginning to end story.

It begins quietly, easing into the mood before gradually opening up and gaining momentum. Each track leads into the next, with ideas and emotions developing over time rather than all at once. The pacing is intentional. This is not a collection of standalone tracks but a single story told across multiple chapters.

The EP explores themes of identity, pressure, and the tension between blending in and staying true to yourself, largely inspired by a life lived with neurodiversity. Some moments are restrained and introspective, others more open and expressive. From start to finish, the journey reflects that inner movement from observation, through uncertainty, and towards a sense of release.

The artwork is as personal as the story told within the EP. The care-free girl on the cover is my daughter, which gives the EP an added layer of meaning. It reflects thoughts about the world we grow up in and the values we pass on, and the hope that individuality and authenticity is something worth holding onto.
