Finally back after a several-week hiatus due to my move. Definitely some hard losses these past weeks, with absolute legends Pharoah Sanders and Ramsey Lewis passing away. Ramsey Lewis's records were some of the first jazz and funk records I purchased, and I highly recommend his catalog - it's still pretty affordable, and just as beautiful and funky as many of the "rare" and pricey records from other artists. Pharoah Sanders' records are getting a bit more pricey these days, but most are still attainable - and there are some good represses out there. Absolutely beautiful music. Rest in Power to both these legends, I'm eternally grateful for what they brought to all of us.

I tried to intersperse some interview clips of each of them within this mix, which I did live on Twitch a few days ago.

Where to start? Herbie Hancock is a living icon, not just in Jazz music, but also as a cultural personality. His musical cannon spans 60 years and surpasses nearly all benchmarks. In-fact, he sets the benchmarks. Delving into his discography suddenly makes one realize how incredibly versatile and prolific he is. From playing straight ahead jazz with Miles Davis in the 60’s, to constructing Headhunters (the 2nd highest selling ‘Jazz’ album of all time, after Miles’ Kind of Blue) Herbie refuses to settle into one style. The winner of more than 16 Grammys, composer of film soundtracks, collaborator with the up and coming and the trad masters; put simply Hancock is a genius. We’ve attempted to pay tribute to his astounding back catalogue by putting together a selection from our collective Hancock LPs, and even though we only touch the surface, you’ll find a fairly broad representation of his music within.
