Unbeknownst to my Mom Dukes, her Tom Jones, Kenny Rodgers and Survivor tapes had fallen victim to freestyles by Big L, Cella Dwellas and Mad Skillz. The discontent for HipHop music dominating the airwaves started brewing a creative, progressive movement unofficially known as the "independent as fuck" rap scene. In 2001 Suge White and Dj Mondee released a classic mix tape that harnessed this power and used it with great responsibility. After digging through tapes of freestyles and music from the Stretch Armstrong Show hosted by Bobbito, I found this GEM.. Listeners of the show will remember this as crunch-time, a period of approximately 30 minutes at the end of many shows where phone calls were accepted live on the air. Crunch-time wasn't the official segment name until about 1996. This may be one of the greatest phone call sessions ever! Enjoy. Shouts to Stretch Armstrong, Bobbito, Sear, and Dj Eli Escobar! A MUST LISTEN!!
